Linear form of convergence, certainly doesnt look like a "no risk" what Metservice has in the Outlook.

That Sun as certainly got kick now in South Taranaki, Manuwatu making that convergence form very nicely :)

Deffo now in Summertime convection mode.

The eastern South Island has been stuck on the cool side of the circulation, I see Oamaru has had an average maximum of just 10C for the last 8 days.

Just being over a small local river that starts in the foothills ,its come up and discoloured, so there's been a descent amount of rain to the west but only 8.2mm here

Couldn't ask for a better rain at the moment, steady drizzle but heavy at times

A noticeable period of cloud cover and lack of sunshine for this period of September, here in the eastern districts of the South Island. Without the sunshine, spring is happening anyway. :-)

Good to hear.

Despite being largely appearing to be "damp" here in Christchurch for the past 7 days, we have actually only received 4mm of precipitation!

It has turned out to be quite a nice day in Auckland.

Will be glad to see the back end of this gloom, i know the little rain we are getting we need but by the looks its a warmer NW flow next week so any 4-5mm will be gone in no time.
However with the sight of the big yellow on Friday, also shows the possibility of inland afternoon/evening heavy heat showers with thunder possible. Very early for this but there is some instability around and not bad cape values plus reasonable dewpoints.
Be nice to see might even get a spillover shower spread east, surface temperatures around 16c to 17c.
Next week is also showing some changing signs, finally bringing some true spring weather.

A travesty of a spring month for many. Only 68 hrs sun to 27th here, so the record low of 104.8 will be easily beaten (milder today but not much sun). That's for 111 Septembers of city records. Even more significantly, if we don't get more than about 86 hours - very likely - the "worst relative deficit" record for any month at Kelburn will be broken as well - meaning the lowest % of the long-term monthly average, currently held by May 1942 with 52.8%. There's a 3rd even worse benchmark that probably won't be beaten... update at the end of the month.

The sun poked out for about an hour this morning, but sadly its gone again now. I admit I got rather excited about it seeing as its been virtually nonexistent for the last 2 weeks. But back to status quo now.

The garden has gone crazy these last few weeks though so at least its been good for something.

Brightening far too late today - the 2nd local record (lowest ever % of monthly average sunshine) is now bound to go west.

That's unreal.

I noticed I'm well over 900mm for the year to date now. This is after being 200mm at 10th May. We have certainly caught back up to where we should be. It could end up being that we actually achieve our 1200mm average which we very rarely seem to be able to achieve in the past decade.

Decent amount - NZ record for a 30-day period is 3813mm at Cropp Waterfall.
