General October Weather
At the moment, it looks like a return to the westerlys to start off October, once this late September upper level "Clagg" clears away.

Just had a nice little afternoon thunderstorm pass over Palmy. Temperature has dropped from 20C to 13C, in the last hour.

Re: General October Weather
So this cool cloudy weather is over 2 weeks old now and am getting over it. I'd guess we've had maybe 6 hours of sunshine over that time. Pretty tough school holiday weather. Change to westerlies will at least give us something different but cool cloudiness looks like it'll be continuing.

Re: General October Weather
Foggy morning yesterday, did see the sun for a while in the afternoon, then I think it was foggy again last night;
currently overcast, sunless, and it has been drizzling.
Had been hoping to view the crescent Moon and Venus together in the evening sky yesterday or this evening:

Re: General October Weather
Going to be an interesting looking first week of October. Looks as though some cold upper troughs making there way up over the country with potential thunderstorm set ups. Have to see how it all pans out

.....as long as we get rid of the 'Clagg', timing or whatever?
That's why we're moving to Geraldine, for more exciting weather

Re: General October Weather
Some good signs in around 5-7 days of some good rain in Canterbury, let's hope this is the start of a wetter pattern much the same as what most of Australia experienced in September...

Re: General October Weather
It is very depressing John! I'm sick of this cloudy crap myself. And a cold dreary NE. Time for a strong NW front to blow it all away, followed by a very unstable day with thunderstorms!NZ Thunderstorm Soc wrote:At the moment, it looks like a return to the westerlys to start off October, once this late September upper level "Clagg" clears away.

I don't mind the rain coming through at night. Looks like a fine Wednesday with westerly.David wrote:Another 17mm of unneeded rain here overnight!
Looking squally over the west and north of the North Island Thursday and Friday. Severe squalls possible later tomorrow.
Western areas should hear some thunder at some stage in the 2 days. Maybe Canterbury Thursday pm too.
500mb 1am Friday

Unneeded rain 15mm here too and everywhere between Waikato and Auckland. Another 30mm potentially to come in the next two days.

Yes, looking manly fine for the upper North Island today then a messy few weather days coming up. Thundery squalls later Thursday into Friday.

I wish I could. Nearly had 20mm since midnight. We are wet here but nothing like South Auckland. Boy are they wet!Razor wrote:Send some down here!jamie wrote:Unneeded rain 15mm here too and everywhere between Waikato and Auckland. Another 30mm potentially to come in the next two days.

Re: General October Weather
Bad wording for tomorrow's forecast for Canterbury.
Brief rain , followed by a few showers
What's the difference between brief rain and a few showers?
Maybe the rain will last about 5 minutes and the showers, if they do fall, will be in periods of about one minute at a time,

Re: General October Weather
Could be some pm thunder south of Timaru today? Looks very cold aloft, but will the convergence be too far inland as has been the problem for the east of the South Island so far this spring.

Have had my eye on this most of the week, always seemed like something was missing though.NZstorm wrote:Could be some pm thunder south of Timaru today? Looks very cold aloft, but will the convergence be too far inland as has been the problem for the east of the South Island so far this spring.

Re: General October Weather
So great to have the beautiful weather today in Auckland, not been much weather like this of late. My station has recorded 215 mm of rain in the last 30 days.
