Re: General October Weather
A lot of lightning out in the Tasman overnight with a storm making it to Taranaki early am.
Storms developed along a strong front and within entrance region of jet stream. The front has shifted northward.

Re: General October Weather
I think Metservice may have had the work experience kid in control this morning, 'a few morning showers' isn't entirely an accurate way to describe the persistent heavy rain rain that's been falling for the last hour in pretty much all of mid Canterbury this morning More to come by the looks of it too

Re: General October Weather
Up this way the clouds are building up, so some of that heavy rain would be nice ,even some thunder looking to the SW

Re: General October Weather
Yes. Very heavy rain late morning, which I call or relate to 'thundery falls'. 10mm in about an hour I noticed, at Halswell with some flooding around Wigram. Not much wind, although it was southerly.

Re: General October Weather
Not a drop of rain here in the end, rain clouds seem to hate my place, they stay well clear.

Re: General October Weather
Interesting. Lots of red on the radar from today's thundery falls passing over Christchurch, especially around noon, mind you it moved from the SW out to the east.
Judging by the clouds that formed this afternoon, lots of Cu build ups, I thought that you may of got something up there, following this thundery downpour.

Re: General October Weather
We got more rain out of the showers which blew from the west mid morning than we did from the northeast moving rainband which gave the heavier falls south of Chch and seemed to weaken quite quickly as it moved north over us.

Re: General October Weather
Looking like a ridge coming in for next week. Will be good to get a dry period.
Some cold upper air 500mb -25C to cross the North Island late Friday and Saturday with a little bit of thunder.

Re: General October Weather
We usually see a tendency for ridging over the upper North Island by mid October with stable southwesterlies however this Spring we may see more northern lows than normal with the near La Nina conditions.
Mostly cloudy for Auckland today with some showers, tomorrow looks brighter with plenty of sunshine.

Re: General October Weather
Unexpectedly fine to have lunch down by the river. NW breeze against the current creating a strong reflection. Concrete path in front has been underwater at times during past week.
