Report from Taranaki Daily News about that possible tornado this morning.
(note that it's the ignorant reporter that uses the 'm' word, not the witnesses)

Also, here's Blitzortung's CG's for the 12 hours to 8am this morn…

On the rain radar there's a little bit of purple over New Plymouth... wish the high quality radars were publicly available then we could understand what happened better :|

I asked Metservice on their FB page for a 60km radar image of it and they posted this.

^ Wow, that was nice of MetService. Great detail in that cell. I wonder if the 1222z (1:22am) image might be pushing our luck  , as it would probably show the cell centred right over New Plymouth...

Yeah the best chance to get images like these is to ask them on their FB page.

12Z sounding off the gfs, about the time the waterspout/tornado made landfall. I have had to tweak up the moisture as the gfs often under reads moisture in cold set ups.

I have coloured in the CAPE for those that don't know skew t. The CAPE is a product of lifting a parcel (temp/dewpoint) from the surface.
