Re: General November Weather
Looks like a couple of storms on tracker this afternoon, inland North Canterbury and southern Waikato.
The cb's fairly low topped over the North Island so interesting to see a storm in the Waikato. Strong upper winds helped to cause the lightning.

Numbers in the GFS point to thunder here tomorrow.
Next week looks like a better weather week for NZ, at least a few sunny days there for most.

Re: General November Weather
Guy I spoke to yesterday in Waikanae was pretty confident he saw a tornado move through his work site. I plotted a path of the debris I observed all the way from the beach to SH1, there was some roof iron/flashing and tree branches on the road which is what prompted me to turn off and look further. Without an actual photograph it is always hard to classify it as an actual tornado, but the damage path I saw was quite localized and pretty minor thankfully. Heavy rain at the time so I'll be surprised if a photo turns up.

A better day here than I was expecting, sunshine /cloud mix, 18C. A couple of brief light showers here this morning. There has been some bigger Cbs around.

Couple of reports from Stuff (although their choice of photo in the first story is a little perplexing )….Rogue wrote:Guy I spoke to yesterday in Waikanae was pretty confident he saw a tornado move through his work site. Re: General November Weather
Had a brief heavy shower here yesterday morning at around 10am that included hail in some parts, with some reports that the hail was quite large. Will see if I can track down some photos…

Skiing has run late this year after a late start.
A shortwave trough crosses the South Island late afternoon with some very cold 700mb temperatures(-7) south of Timaru coupled with moist onshore flow. Quite possibly a thunderstorm/hail or two there today if the cap can be broken.

Cloudiness for Auckland today with some showers, becomes fine tomorrow and the fine weather running into next week.
I'm in SE Queensland next week and was hoping for a storm chase but the pattern is not looking very promising .

Re: General November Weather
We had an impressive hail shower come through 30mins ago or so. Not in the same league as that Ashburton one earlier in the week, but maybe 10c piece sized, but the largest I've seen for a while. Lasted maybe 5mins, with rain either side. Stopped my lawn mowing in it's tracks.

Looked good from the echoes off the Rakaia radar.
Would look much better when the Otago radar comes on line

General November Weather
Today's weather was utter crap. It drizzled all day amounting to 1mm. I thought today was supposed to be cloudy but clearing.
