Didn't really notice much over here.

I think hail was reported falling in west and south Akld between 1pm and !:30pm.
The MS radar below shows the cell just before this.

Looking like two hail dumps on the city, the first in the west early afternoon and the second on South Auckland (Takanini) mid afternoon.

Some slight hail observed in Grey Lynn about 4.30pm.

Unfortunately I was stuck at work yesterday so couldn't chase. :x, took a photo looking south of storm clouds over South Auckland.

Yes, below a couple of radar-images from twitter showing the cells around that time...

I see Grey Lynn also got a wee isolated 5mm dump around 5:30pm.

A forecast lesson about the cold low topped set ups is the 500mb lifted index can be a poor indicator of the instability.
700mb lifted index tends to measure things better.

It's OK John  we will get our turn. You can't beat a Canterbury thunderstorm day with a good severe set up on the plains.
The storms around Mt Somers over the weekend were some of the most epic I have seen. Was awesome. See pics in the General October thread
