Thunder/hailstorms in Auckland - Oct 31
Looking like a another nice day for Auckland to finish the month.
Some airmass destabilisation in the Bay of Plenty this afternoon with a low topped thunderstorm or two and small hail on the cards.
Possibly as far west as eastern Waikato. 500mb -28C.

Re: General October Weather
Todays isolated thunder risk a bit further west than we thought. Hunua ranges this afternoon?

Re: General October Weather
it looks to be building SSE towards me. However we have very dry air here unless a sea breeze kicks in soon. So I don't expect it to live very long if its tapping into dry air.

Lucky buggers up there, doesn't sound like the storms were big enough to set out warnings tho. Here's a link by nz http://m.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article ... d=11738937

Re: General October Weather
Interesting day considering thunderstorms were not predicted for the area.
Previous runs of the gfs were placing the CAPE in the Bay of Plenty. But turns out it was much further west over Auckland!
We had a 500mb vorticity lobe right over the tops of us which would have helped with lifting the air.
