Re: General December Weather
Tomorrow quite a bit of moisture will be coming in off that Northerly to NW flow pre front, could pop up some isolated Thunderstorms in the Waikato mid/late PM if sufficient heating occurs.

Re: General December Weather
Might be a chance of a thunderstorm for eastern LNI Friday? Cold 500mb temps, surface convergence and daytime heating once the front clears? I have Friday off and wouldn't mind going for a drive

Re: General December Weather
You can see the moisture in Auckland this morning with some low based cumulus.
The set up over the South Island looks as far north as Timaru by 7pm and heading north into the evening.

Re: General December Weather
"Cloudy mild and humid" here this morning, only 20-odd degrees but possibly because one has been busy (bright idea! get into town early! ) it feels a lot warmer.

Re: General December Weather
Today fairly useless. Too much upper stratus layers hindering the ground heating development.mikestormchaser wrote:Yes tomorrow actually looks better then today now. Models all over the place this year
Looks doubtful about any precipitation prospects as well ?

Re: General December Weather
Loud thunder over new Brighton here 10 mins ago. Three strikes and thunder coming from the west/nw. Just starting to spit with rain. Cloud bank going from nw to se. Overcast, light airs here. Wind starting to pick up from south as I type.

Re: General December Weather
I see those flashes towards chch city and port hills from rolleston. Quite a keen SE wind to so probably that convergance the models were suggesting today. NZstorm got it bang on though! As he said at night.

Re: General December Weather
Interesting developments in North Canterbury. Don't think we'll be so lucky to see a thunderstorm here but has started raining. Good call NZStorm.

Re: General December Weather
What incredibly good timing to get such a big dump of rain, ended up getting 47.6mm, will be interesting to find out 'who got what' in and around this area, i would say that it was a real hit and miss event going by the radar.

Very turbulent crossing of the Alps and also approaching Chch when returning from Australia last night. The aircraft windows were very iced up until mid-descent.

Re: General December Weather
Quite nice to see lightning at night, just shows with it being December storms can fire up at anytime without heating and provided the right convergences are there.
In contrast weve had about 1mm here, spitting off and on today but 17c so with abit of afternoon heating there could be some beafy showers thunder and hail even across the plains not just inland.

Re: General December Weather
Nothing observed from here. Wasn't expecting anything because of the boring conditions so went off to bed after posting on my blog
