Both GFS ans GFS-FV3 have been hinting at a trough moving in a day or two after we arrive (GFS has it about a day later). GFS has plenty of moisture in place but the FV3 not so much. Still a long way out.

In 36 hours we will be travelling across the Tasman Sea, getting close now. Sadly the mountain of things I need to complete before going is still quite large. But batteries are being charged etc prior to departing, so hopefully everything will fall in to place. Now all we need is some weather worthy of a chase when we get there

Re: Forum USA Trip 2018
Have a great chase trip.
SPC has issued an MD on todays set up. I think the MD is the most useful product the SPC put out as they can update details such as the location of outflow boundaries. They are a must read in my opnion. Typically issued before a watch.

There will be some good chasing. I see there is some good western troughing around the 20th.tgsnoopy wrote: ↑Thu 10/05/2018 20:31 In 36 hours we will be travelling across the Tasman Sea, getting close now. Re: Forum USA Trip 2018
yes good luck tgsnoopy . Its always a commitment time and money and the longer you go the better the chances. I am undecided yet as even the predictions for June July show average or below moisture predicted for New Mexico and Arizona.Best supercells normally late May in Texas so enjoy.

Bloody good day yesterday for us chasing. Might be a few days before we get some pics up. Windscreen and car has seen better days, oops.

Re: Forum USA Trip 2018
Sometimes you can't get out the way of hail. Hail is a limiting factor for storm chasing unless you have a vehicle with hail protection. We missed a big tornado last trip in order to protect the vehicle from hail.

Re: Forum USA Trip 2018
There has been plenty of structure in 2018 despite lack of tornadoes.

Re: Forum USA Trip 2018
Sure was good structure today in NM. Two days in a row here and tossing up NM tomorrow or a 10 hour drive north to SD. last night we very nearly got hit by lightning while in the car. I got it on film. Rather funny.

Re: Forum USA Trip 2018
Slightly off topic but Tropical Storm Alberto making landfall on the Gulf Coast in a couple of days time.
GFS forecast sounding here for western Florida Panhandle. Looking interesting! A few EF1 tornadoes on the cards.
