I notice that their news thingy on their website is not working?
Maybe it's a scheme to join their email listing?

I'm just thinking as an idea, why don't Met Service number their warnings and watches, like what the railways (Kiwi Rail) do with their train advices?
eg, Severe Warning 3 cancels Sever Warning 2, or at the end of the year SW 2356 cancels SW 2355
This would be a good way to register, on line, how many warnings and watches are issued each year?
....then you could refer back to SW 1117?
What do you think? Just an idea.

They must have fixed something on their website because the last weather news report showed just fine. You can read the previous reports here. http://about.metservice.com/homepagerss/

Not their website but their new app.

Who hates it as much as I do? Am I correct in thinking you can't see a national rain radar? And to move around the country's radars you have to change city?

Has anyone managed to find a way to view the entire country radar on the new app?

There has been a big backlash at Metservice with this App, quite a downgrade people are calling it.
The Ads are very intrusive that you have to scroll through a full page to get them out of the way.

Also there is another problem, with people who paid $2.50 for the previous version which had no ads got upgraded to this version and now get ads. If I paid $2.50 for an app that did that, I would ask for my money back!

Thankfully I have hardly ever used the Apps they had been developing, and use Websites for met stuff.

currently its 14c here with the SSW wind at 9:45pm
so its not a cold wind, compared with the last southerly

the amount of cloud cover expected in land overnight and the amount of wind will determine of the night will cool off..hence a big range /change in the forecast, I would say

If you want to have a chuckle can I suggest to go read the reviews on the MetService app in the app stores. WOW the app is taking a hiding. I've never seen so much hate for a app update. It's funny because of how badly they have got this wrong.

The didn't listen during beta testing, nor have they cared about customers opinions since

I see for Oamaru, this evening, they have "Rad Developing|"
Is that a special type of rain, combined with sleet or graupal ????? :?
.also they had their update for the Severe Watch to be issued about an hour or so before the current Watch. :o

So in my quest to get cheaper access to the high res radars and other toys from MS I recently suggested (which had been previously suggested on here http://weatherforum.org.nz/phpBB3/viewt ... rds#p80870 ) that instead of paying $300+ a month to pay $20 for 24 hours for one 60km radar ($10 is max I'd pay I just said $20 to get their attention) and their sales team seemed 'genuinely interested' and that it has been fed through the development team for consideration for future developments. So.. meh

Dont know whats going on with the MS website showing the Culverden readings, has 11.6mm & 13.6mm for the last two days yet there hardly any cloud, thats no top of only showing 8.6mm on the 21st when a lot more fall.

If you didnt know the location that is what you would expect to see from a heavy snow fall and subsequent melt over the following days. Is it possible the data feed has got corrupted and the data from a higher elevation station is getting fed into the Culverden slot on the web site?

yes that sounds plausible, 8.6mm on the 21st where it should have shown at 45 -50mm, the rest falling as snow...somewhere?

Refreshing alternative to today's forecast from MS meteorologist Angus Hines… :D
On Facebook MetService wrote:
…Or, if you prefer your weekend forecast in limerick form:

Saturday was quite divine,
Stunning to see the sun shine,
It was lovely and still,
To be outside was a thrill,
To sum up in one word: Fine.

But things are changing again,
Sunday will bring some rain,
At first for the west,
A bit later for the rest,
Most places will see a bit in the drain.

A front's coming from the Tasman Sea,
Heavy rain is a reality,
It seems the West Coast,
Is in line for the most,
A Weather Watch out for when it gets heavy

There won't be too much in the east,
It should be clear by your morning feast,
Some might fall from the skies,
If you're early to rise,
But you'll see sun by midday, at least.

It will reach the North Island by noon,
But it's not all just plain doom and gloom ,
The rain will be brief,
We'll see some relief,
Once it reaches Monday afternoon.

It's not going to be very wild,
The meteorologist smiled,
Humid air from the Pacific,
Plus cloud that's prolific,
Ensure temps will remain rather mild
