The Tasman Tempest causes a deluge in the upper North Island.
The national average temp of 16.0C was 0.3C above normal.
The month's highest temp of 33.0C was recorded at Leeston on the 17th, and the lowest temp of -1.7C was recorded at Pukaki Aero on the 8th.
Quite a few upper North Island sites had near-record rainfalls, with Auckland's Mangere, Whangaparaoa and Pukekohe all recording their wettest March on record.
