Have never before seen Waikato stadium start to accumulate surface water since it was rebuilt. Looks like getting sustained >20mm/hr there. Heavy but nothing extreme here (Leamington) probably more like the 7mm/hr showing at the airport.

Yeah, there's been been a few dodgy slips on Waiheke, but this video looks a little more precarious…

I would not be surprised if there are more reports of small tornadoes in the next 24hrs.

Moist trough 7th to 13th March

95mm in about 14 hours at home and still coming down. No heavy rain warning though for Waikato. Just a watch was put out. I think this is my highest rainfall for any 24 hour period already with 10 hours to go.

The convection building in the North Tasman is heading our way folks and will affect the North Island from this evening through to tomorrow morning. Risk of a tornado from Taranaki to the top of Northland with this convection.

Quite a large Severe Thunderstorm Watch Out:
MetService - Gerard Barrow wrote: Valid until 10:00 pm Saturday 11 March 2017
Issued for:
  • Northland, Auckland,Coromandel Peninsula, Waikato, Waitomo
  • Taumarunui,Bay of Plenty,
  • Taupo,Hawkes Bay,Taranaki,
  • Taihape,Wanganui,Manawatu,Tararua
A warm and humid northerly flow over the North Island combined with unstable conditions is expected to produce scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms in many areas of the North Island this afternoon and evening. There is a moderate risk some of these thunderstorms may become SEVERE in localised areas from about northern Manawatu and Hawkes Bay northwards, producing localised heavy rain and possible downpours with intensities of 25 to 40mm/hr and possibly more. Rainfall of this intensity can cause flash flooding, especially about low-lying areas such as streams, rivers or narrow valleys, and may also lead to slips. Driving conditions will also be hazardous with surface flooding and poor visibility in heavy rain.

Saw that Cb from here, it was the only significant shower in the area today after the rain earlier this morning.

Keep an eye on a CB line to the West of Northland running down the coast this evening/overnight, its running right along the the side exit region of the Jet and as it reaches further south I think there will be a bit more compression at lower levels and resulting higher divergence with Jet interaction.
In which case I think those Cb's could fire up quite a bit over the west coast.

The rain that was forcasted to move over the top of the SI during today is moving through much earlier, another hour and it will have cleared as it moves SE. Still, been a handy rain with 17.8mm so far.
