Drove up the southern motorway as that storm was developing :-) , torrential rain, about 7 flashes of lightning observed , nice to be in a storm.

some elevated convection coming in from the E this evening, unusual ,usually a summer occurrence when it does happen. May get some imbedded lightning/ thunder later. Drove as far as Cambridge yesterday .There was an intense shortlived storm just 10 or so Ks SW of the town at about 4 pm. Went through it about 3 times {as you do] A couple of cgs but not overly lightning active. Rain was insanely heavy though with the odd chunk of hail mixed in.

Moist unstable airmass NI 26-29th March

Unread post by jamie »

Another 20mm so far. Now at 55mm from this system.

Now up to 240mm for the month with more to come. I'm not sure what this stations record rainfall for any month is but I would think it's around the 250 mark.

I've just looked and July 2008 was 240mm. So I'm now in uncharted territory for this station with records since 2006

I see there was thunder in the Wellsford area this morning with 50mm in 3hrs up there. Also early morning lightning near Hamilton.

Looks like a grey rainy day for Auckland today, a contrast to yesterday's hot sun 26C!

Was torrential rain when I got into Parnell at 7.15am... definitely seems heavier in the city than out east.

Monthly rain total has just gone over 300mm!

Will be lucky if this rain clears in time for any decent daytime heating to get going

Looking at the rain radar, it seemed to be rotating right over Seddon Park in Hamilton

Looks like a shelf from a collapsing cell. There was no shear there today so cells would have gone up and then come down quickly. Nice pic. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C8DxduSX0AoTQsG.jpg:large
