The potential is there for sure.Manukau heads obs wrote:I am thinking this afternoon there is a likely chance of a coastal tornado somewhere...surely
The lightning out to NW of Cape Reinga is likely associated with an upper level feature and coming our way!

No problems with MS's website here this morn…
138mm here so far. Has eased a bit now, but very blustery.
I see Whangaparaoa's had 177mm so far, with 44.2mm falling in the hour to 11pm. Whitianga Aero's also had 159mmm

114mm in Howick so far. Yesterday's total of 93mm easily beat my previous record daily rainfall.

We had 100mm between 5pm last night and 6 this morning in Ranui, insane amount of rain. The local river got near it's peak flood level too.

Looks like I moved our absentee neighbour's car just in time last night. The slip directly below it has increased overnight and the car would probably have been upside down on the road below by now…

Some amazing rain lately. Whangaparaoa with 354mm in March, now 177 mm from this event so far . Longer range is pointing to more rain making systems.

Batten down the hatches northerners... parts of Auckland showing Fiordland like rainfall totals over the past month!

Great Barrier Island looks to be copping it this morning, quite an intense rain band showing on the radar.

Far out! The latest warnings saying 90-120mm more for Waikato. For us that's not good and I'm worried what tomorrow will look like!
Sun is out now, windy but very warm.

Yes. Fiorldland easily handles heavy rain. I think you could argue MS put out too many rainfall warnings for Fiorldland.Razor wrote:Batten down the hatches northerners... parts of Auckland showing Fiordland like rainfall totals over the past month!
MS shows Milford Sound on 236.4 mm for the past month, Auckland Airport on 322 mm, Whangaparaoa 518.2mm

Re: TC Debbie remnants 3rd-6th April NZ wide
All models as well as Metservice now going for between 50-60mm for the Christchurch region, I know that's nothing for you guys up north but there could be some minor flooding around Christchurch this time tomorrow, especially after the heavy rain a few weeks ago the ground is still quite sodden...

Sodden might be a stretch- I ran the Port Hills trails last night and still dry hard packed dirt up there.Bradley wrote:All models as well as Metservice now going for between 50-60mm for the Christchurch region, I know that's nothing for you guys up north but there could be some minor flooding around Christchurch this time tomorrow, especially after the heavy rain a few weeks ago the ground is still quite sodden...
More of a concern are the areas of unstable soil and rocks around the fires and the impact of the Heathcote silting up. Its enough rain to threaten a few houses around Beckenham that are often in the firing line with a decent prolonged fall.

Re: TC Debbie remnants 3rd-6th April NZ wide
Im thinking potentially 70mm or something around there for ChCh, see MetServcie has watch out for rainfall approching warning amounts on Banks Peninsula.
EDIT: MS computer models saying 76.3mm for Chch from now until tomorrow evening.

Off topic here, the system showing in both the GFS and EC for next week looks interesting for Canterbury, something to watch on the back of this weeks rain.

Great North Road overflowing with water, because of collapsed culvert under the road.Brassnz wrote:103mm overnight in Laingholm. New Lynn flooded again - will be a slow crawl into the city today...

Looks to be mostly over in Auckland apart from a few narrow bands of rain with some embedded heavy falls - reading the NZ herald you would get the impression there's going to be a widespread deluge worse than yesterday...

There is a line of heavy showers/thunderstorms over Northland sinking south, something to watch

I'm in waerenga today in North Waikato and we would have had a fall of about 20mm in an hour earlier. Looks like home didn't get that thankfully.
