Very unstable coastal forecast from Metservice through the night. Will be interesting to see how it pans out. The front dues look active on the radar.

Gusty SW here too. Few showers/ band of rain moving in soon. Probably followed by a few heavier hail showers and that snow level will drop in my opinion maybe 3-400m on banks Peninsula. It should all retreat to the coast by early morning. That's how I read the models. Nothing to get excited about this event

There is enough southerly in the flow to get some decent wintry showers into Dunedin this morning with the very cold trough crossing.
Still mild here, around 14C, much cooler here by this evening.
Next week looks like a much better weather week across NZ

Well the snow has settled down to about 170m here. We've had a few flurries at home (@20m) but the hills across the road have a light covering down to just below 200m. Motorway north from Dunedin is closed, and from the traffic cam, it might be a wee while until it's open. A chilly 3.0°C here at present.

edit: scrap that, the roads open again......

Rather chilly day it turned out today....Had a few more snow flurries this morning, with some decent flakes coming down at times. Went for a run in one of them which was fun. Temp dropped to 2.3°C during one just before lunch time. Sun poked out a bit this arvo, so managed to get to 5.3°C for a short period. Currently 3.8°C.
Does this mean we're in for a cold winter? The consensus round here over the last few weeks is that we could be in for a ripper.....

now suddenly has switched to a SE wind, i.e coming over land, and now its suddenly 8.9C here and dropping (with the sun out)
