Indeed I do. In the same way as for me the cold start to May signals an early start to winter. (Which a lot of other people are telling me is the case also).

Other winters lately have been so late, this just looks more normal to me.

yes, exactly, this May is more like the good old days (i.e more like the longer term average instead of the indian summer late autumns we have been getting alot of over the last 15 years)

The less scientific observation I've made of this May being much colder then last May is the fact I had the fire on once all of last May and that was right at the end of the month - this May I've had it on at least 15-20 times already :eek:

It's the same story down here. Our fire has been going every night I believe, and sometimes all day as well. It was hardly required last May for sure. Having based my wood order on last years usage, I may be a bit short this year.
As for temps, this May I'm running 1.5°C colder overall.

Just shows how much of a difference 4C can make!!! One-third of my wood already gone - not good!

You couldn't get any more unseasonably warm than the 1st half of May last year - even though the 2nd half was more 'normal', May 2016 was a record mild one for NZ. Want a really wintry May, remember 2009. I think it was nearly 2C below normal for NZ as a whole.

Same here. Will need to find an extra couple m3 I think.

Fog didn't lift yesterday and still thick now but showing signs of that it will lift today unlike yesterday.

Should be gone soon. Been clear in Cambridge since dawn, decent breeze blowing. Had cleared from City Centre and South/East by time I got to work before 9. My webcam showed home had bathed in sun all afternoon yesterday, but fog had reformed quite thick by the time I got home about 8pm.

A quiet May weatherwise, not overly cool here, a couple of cold nights.

Trough Sunday shows a few heat showers over Waikato

20mm here overnight, although a PWS just 2.5 km south of here recorded 30mm. Still a little foggy here, but clearing towards the NE.

I see Rotorua Aero recorded 46mm this morn, with 35mm of that in the 2 hrs to 8am.

Seems to have become awfully dark here in the last few minutes;
very overcast, and drizzle or light rain falling;
about 10 degrees and I'm surprised it's that high...

The rain radar may have been out of calibration today. It was bucketing down with rain in Central Park Drive, Lincoln, Henderson, while the radar only showed tiny light yellow dots.
