Looks like great barrier could be in the firing line for a decent thunderstorm.

Meanwhile very gusty and very from the south. Don't often get heavy gusty rain from the south.

34mm for this event here. I see the Coromandel's Pinnacles recorded 119 mm for May 11-12, similar to the 123mm recorded at MS's Farewell Spit site on May 10-11 (compared to 62mm at Nelson Aero).

Probably not quite as severe as some of the storms we've had in recent months, but it looks like most North Island places received around 40mm or more over the last 2 days.

Below are some of MetService's more notable 2-day falls:

May 11 and 12 Rainfalls (mm)
13 + 83 = 96 … Taupo
17 + 75 = 92 … Taupo Aero
58 + 33 = 91 … Taumarunui
36 + 50 = 87 … Golden Valley
11 + 76 = 87 … Galatea
23 + 59 = 82 … Rotorua Airport
30 + 36 = 66 … Waiouru
11 + 53 = 63 … Auckland Aero
10 + 51 = 62 … Whitianga Aero
11 + 49 = 59 … Hamilton Aero
00 + 59 = 59 … Tolaga Bay
00 + 57 = 58 … Whakatane Aero
47 + 06 = 53 … New Plymouth Aero
00 + 52 = 52 … Mahia
00 + 51 = 51 … Gisborne Aero

Highest gusts include: 148 km/h at Cape Reinga, 115 km/h at Hicks Bay, 104 km/h at Mahia Radar and 106 km/h in Cook Strait.
