Very interesting that they put so much weight into GFS, certainly during normal winters it is normally very innacurate indeed more then 4 days out, EC for me usually shows alot more consistency and definately in the last month or so. Perhaps they look at EC as well who knows...
EC ensemble is used and generally weighted more heavily, but there is no restriction on posting images from the GFS ensemble onto the open internet.

In Hanmer Springs at present: sunny, some lowish cloud coming across, breezy NW; some snow on nearby hills has vanished overnight.

Another warm day here, well should I say "ditto day" as what the late Augie Auer would say
Same maximum temperature as yesterday.
Rainband clouds to the west and NW of here along the Alps. North to NW winds here although light.

I see snow is falling in the Leith valley above 300m in the traffic cams around Dunedin, currently 3C in the city as well so would be sleeting there you would imagine. No doubt that won't both the Lions too much...

Impressive looking gust front but not as strong as I expected... rain has just started here.

Pano of two wide-angle shots a couple of minutes before it arrived about 20 minutes ago.

EDIT: heavy rain and small hail now...

Looked nothing like that when it went trough Geraldine or near to here.
We did get a shower of rain just after n00n, but that was from the west and it moved out to sea.

Eased now, and I can see a dusting of snow above about 500m on the other side of the harbour.

I see Metservice are predicting a colder winter this year compared to last with atmospheric setup much more conducive to big high pressure systems setup over NZ and plenty of frost but also dry conditions...

Yes. There's now concerns about lake levels for hydro production of electricity over the winter months.

An odd weather day here. Not that anything exciting occurred, but from being 5.1°C at midday we hit the summery high of 16.8°C just after 3pm. No NW'er caused it at all, just that the sun came out.
After a light frost this morning, the cloud cover came over and it was just miserably cold. I absolutely hate the days when it does this, so I wasn't in a happy place.....
The cloud finally disappeared at lunch time and since then it warmed up very nicely.

Same happen here, been about 7deg all day, but now the sun has gone down its warmed to 11deg but still no wind. When the warmer NW winds arrive overhead they may not be blowing at ground level but that warmth must slowly radiate downwards

Running on the Port Hills tonight I was striking pockets of warm air on an otherwise chilly night.

Awesome when it does that eh? Sometimes you only have to be 50m up. Basically you are skirting the lid of the inversion layer.

Keeping an eye on these systems early-mid next week. Maybe nothing, but could align somewhere

Not often a southerly change increases the temperature by 7 degrees, but that just happened here
