Yes most of the models agree on a low pressure system affecting Canterbury mid next week and there is also a cold outbreak coming just after but not by very much...

I see airport has flight disruptions due fog. Currently 10C there while Grey Lynn fine 17C. No fog here this morning.

GFS has the rain really setting in over Northland on Tuesday with instability deepening in the far north. So heavy falls definitely on the way for upper Northland this week, especially given a moist low level jet of 40knots giving orographic enhancement. Thunder on the cards for Thursday/Friday perhaps.

Some early morning fog here again, seems to be slow to clear the Airport.
A mild 17C on the way, min was 8C, has been a frost free June here so far.

Just put my birthday prezzy on the wall after installing it over the past few weekends. Looks nice! Installation only cost me $4 for the sound cable. Wood and varnish was lying around. Image

Yea lol it does work. Have had 52km recorded on it so far. Very frustrating with how calm and foggy the last few weeks have been. Only one decent wind day recently. I can't wait for some squally Westerly thunder showers to come thru.

Nice one Jamie, where have you got the new anemometer? is it on the house or is with the vp2 one with a relay?

Na it's on the house. Sitting up above the UHF. Could go higher if I want but at this stage it's unobstructed and about 2m above the roof. The trees are still young so in time I will need to make it higher I think.

It would be useless having one installed here in Geraldine as we have had bugger all wind since we have been here.
I don't know if it blows here much, seems to be much more calmer than our property in West Melton. <3 :-)

South Canterbury doesnt get the same amount of föhn winds as the rest of Canterbury. I would put that down to an increased sheltering effect of the higher section of the Southern Alps, once past the northern end of the alps the amount of wind is much highier

Lovely mild wind outside this morning compared to the past few with 10.5deg

Yes. True.
A wee bit of a southerly today, now NE, and one day last week when that cold air came through.
Generally, fairly settled and 'not much wind'.

I see Metservice now talking about the possibility of heavy snow above 500m for Canterbury on Thursday/Friday, must be going for a warm advective event :-k

At least that's not too low a snow level

Potentially snow to low levels inland for the South Island Thursday into Friday.

Thinking it could go lower then 500m in Canterbury if the plot of -4C at 850hpa and heavy rain happen to collide which some of the models are suggesting they will on Thursday night/Friday morning
