Re: General July Weather
Does look like a spell of wintry weather coming up across NZ next week, we have had little in the way of cold weather here so far this Winter, a couple of light frosts in May.

Re: General July Weather
Looks to be a short lived event the closer we get to it and the models have also brought the snow level up to 300m and less moisture. Just unbelievable the bad luck we have had to date in terms of strong cold fronts, I miss the days of 2011 and 2012mikestormchaser wrote:Next week suggests the coldest week of the year so far. Will be keeping eye on it. But not getting excited unless it stays that way 48 hrs prior to the event. Then will make a prediction.. the models as of late have been a teaser in witch iv been keeping quiet about things for awhile.

Re: General July Weather
Probably the little bit of heating here this morning helped produce that brief storm, up to 16C earlier.
A lot more TS activity showing up over the Tasman just west of here.

Re: General July Weather
Latest Metservice sever weather outlook has "heavy snow above 200m" with a moderate confidence for Southland and parts of Otago, just can't see the moisture at the moment for it to be heavy snow, all models are showing quite a dry change, maybe 5-10cm at best?

Re: General July Weather
There is a strong upper level trough which could make things happen. A set up certainly worth keeping an eye for the South Island including Canterbury.Bradley wrote:Latest Metservice sever weather outlook has "heavy snow above 200m" with a moderate confidence for Southland and parts of Otago, just can't see the moisture at the moment for it to be heavy snow, all models are showing quite a dry change, maybe 5-10cm at best?

Re: General July Weather
Thunderstorms about to affect western parts of Auckland.
A brighter spell here just now, hopefully we may see the Cb tops in the west.

Re: General July Weather
And just as you say that the latest GFS update has considerably more moisture and also around 1C colder too, no doubt this chopping and changing will happen a lot over the next 5 days, let's see what tonight's EC run brings...NZstorm wrote:There is a strong upper level trough which could make things happen. Most strange thunder. All about 3 seconds away. Had 2 massive ones now and 3 smaller ones. But the big ones are what I would call incredibly powerful. Massively viabrating the house. Things rattling through the house and you really feel it in your feet.

Thunder here is fairly constant. Just had lightning flashes as it gets closer. Sitting outside enjoying the show, no need to head out and chase:)

Heaps of thunder and lightning here. Been a long time between drinks.
Wasn't expecting much this far south.
