Yep, that would be right too, but if we get any warmer northerly weather in the coming weeks there could be increased flows from the lower level snow.TonyT wrote:Hydro lakes dont tend to get topped up in winter as most of the precip falls as snow. Its the amount of snow which falls which is significant, because that dictates how much streamflow there is when it melts.Richard wrote:Hoping the hydro lakes have had a top up in the last few days. nil rainfall here and not looking like there's going to be any in the next 10 days either, surely we cant have a third dry winter in a row. Lowest ive seen the water table here during July in 16 years

Re: General July Weather
A lovely day here in Rakaia, although the wind is starting to get a chill to it now after a rather pleasant midday temperature of 7 degrees. I see metservice have snow for Methven showing on their ten day forecast for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week. I sure hope that is wrong.

Not sure where they are getting snow down to 300m asl from for next week - none of the 3 major models are forecasting that...snowykiwi wrote:A lovely day here in Rakaia, although the wind is starting to get a chill to it now after a rather pleasant midday temperature of 7 degrees. Re: General July Weather
MetS website for Methven, i certainly wouldn't read into that though, looking like the weather system will be more a east to north east flow.Bradley wrote:Not sure where they are getting snow down to 300m asl from for next week - none of the 3 major models are forecasting that...snowykiwi wrote:A lovely day here in Rakaia, although the wind is starting to get a chill to it now after a rather pleasant midday temperature of 7 degrees. Some dense and snowy-looking cloud going over here at the moment; 4.2deg.
Just raining
Edit to add: Methven Spy reports graupel and very cold there.

Largely breaking up and fizzling before it gets here. Some brief patchy rain and that's about it

Woke up to a hail shower at a quarter to six this morning and that was it .
Fine and sunny for the morning with a light westerly blowing.

Re: General July Weather
A chilly showery day here. Started out ok, with a mostly sunny, but cool morning, but from about 11:30 it's turned a bit nastier with some showers coming through on a gusty at times SW. Currently 5.9°C.

Early to mid next week I am interested in. Looks cold, but will the moisture hold?

Airmass looking unstable over next few days for Auckland with heavy showers. Mild temperatures.
Thunder may to be heard at same stage over the next few days.

EC has gone cold on it though GFS is still interested, let's hope we get something - this winter has been extremely uninteresting to date!Razor wrote:Early to mid next week I am interested in. Looks cold, but will the moisture hold?

Yes it could just as easily be a 'critical SW' flow and everything staying to seaBradley wrote:EC has gone cold on it though GFS is still interested, let's hope we get something - this winter has been extremely uninteresting to date!Razor wrote:Early to mid next week I am interested in. Latest GFS has it more of a straight southerly, let's hope that holds!Bradley wrote:EC has gone cold on it though GFS is still interested, let's hope we get something - this winter has been extremely uninteresting to date!Razor wrote:Early to mid next week I am interested in. Re: General July Weather
Next week suggests the coldest week of the year so far. Will be keeping eye on it. But not getting excited unless it stays that way 48 hrs prior to the event. Then will make a prediction.. the models as of late have been a teaser in witch iv been keeping quiet about things for awhile.
