Must be terribly hard to forecast snow levels. For perspective, the sky tower is about 320m from ground to spire tip I think.
I'm no expert but I love severe weather!

Re: Polar blast & NI low 11-14th July
I still think snow showers for the city. If snow showers can form a chain during witch it is the coldest part there may be a couple cm accumulated. I'd keep out on maybe a gust front with approaching SW change this afternoon. Could be something to watch maybe

Going by the latest models this afternoon. Nothing has changed moisture wise and still to me looks cold enough for snow to ground level

? Is it possible that there's thunder around? I just thought I heard some, for the third time in the past twenty minutes or so...

Re: Polar blast & NI low 11-14th July
It has been dry in Dunedin most of the afternoon, even with a patch of blue and a flash of sun. Now looking "thicker" south of here. Maybe as the sun goes down we will hopefully be in line for a cell
There is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes.

Re: Polar blast & NI low 11-14th July
Just driven home from Chch to Waddington (nr Sheffield) and on reaching the Darfield turn off on Old West Coast Rd (c. 300m) the rain turned more sleety and wind picked up.
EDIT: 5.40pm first few flakes amid sleet.
EDIT: 5.50pm - snowing

Snow settling 5 km west of Ashburton approx. 140 metres but radar shows it clearing from the south

Photo taken about an hour ago. Is probably 5cm outside now. Snow has eased up a bit.

Re: Polar blast & NI low 11-14th July
Just got back from Akaroa. Light rain was starting there just before 4pm, but no snow or sleet yet at Hilltop about 1/2 hour later. (probably some there now)
