Well it's white outside under the moon light no. Less but it looks like a sleety, slushy layer of ice rather than snow. We still may see a few snow showers as these chain showers move thru.

No snow here at all, but Dunedin got some right down to sea-level it seems. Webcams showing a dusting in the Octagon and a bit more than that around the traps. Motorway North is closed, so looks like a decent snow-day for the city today!

Nice coating of snow on the car window this morning right down to sea level. Nothing major but a nice surprise.

Dunedin has certainly got some snow to sea level. Still nighttime down there on the webcams!
Its possible that the southwesterly could reach gale over Auckland Thursday.
Hail, squalls, isolated lightning also in the possibility category for Auckland depending on how this system moves.

I'm here visiting family in Burnham, just off SH 1 - we got snow on the ground and snowing again this morning - seems we are right in the firing line of the showers coming off the ocean - we are at 66 metres asl

Great watching the cold air is punching up below the upper level cloud as the low develops just west of Nelson http://satview.bom.gov.au/

I'm at 350m in Taihape. Just had our first flakes in a heavy patch of rain. Lots of snow at Waiouru. Will go for a drive this arvo for the kids to play in it. Don't expect much down here.

Looking at 'your weather' ,whats interesting are the temps around Canterbury are not a lot different between either at around 300asl or those close to sea level.

Snow on the beach at St Clair, Dunedin.
The Met Service meteorologists had the Dunedin forecast snow level at 200m a day or two ago.

Just back from a short run around town, and footpaths very slippery with a little snow/hail/sleet. Down at the beach, a little bit of the white stuff above the high tide line. But otherwise, the sun has started shining very nicely and 2.1°C.
Much nastier looking south towards Dunedin.

Only around 5cm of snow so far in Hanmer Springs, anyone have an idea why the forecast of 40-50cm just doesn't look like happening?

The town never gets as much as surrounding areas. If you look at some of Jason Fletcher's photos on FB there is easily 20cm+ on the hills surrounding the town.Bradley wrote:Only around 5cm of snow so far in Hanmer Springs, anyone have an idea why the forecast of 40-50cm just doesn't look like happening?
The moisture backed off in yesterday's model runs and so the expected amount dropped. Still another 48 hours to go up there though, so lets see how it looks then.
