Big developments over land on the radar. Much more to come yet. I would say Christchurch is nearing 50mm in parts, if not more already.

I just came back from a run around town, and she's pretty wild out there. Not really a great deal of rain here, yet, with only 30mm recorded, but it's coming down at a fair rate at the moment and the wind is extremely strong. Almost stopped me in my tracks a few times along the beach. Combined with high tide (or maybe a king tide?) our lagoon was filling up from both the sea and run-off. Some localised flooding, but running through ankle deep water didn't make much difference when I was already soaked.
If this is what it looks like after 30mm, I'd hate the see it if we hit 150mm.....

Its been dry here since noon. 27mm for us, nowhere near 50. Maybe more later, current developments are to the north and inland west from city. As normal in this sort of flow Christchurch is in a rain shadow

I'd say northen and western parts have more than 27mm... the airport for example has about 45mm so far.
Edit: Radar continuing to develop.. over some southern parts of the city now.

As at 3pm. Still dry here, but sun has long gone. Thoughts with those further south

Official MS rain gauge for ChCh reading 45mm. Don't know where Niwa's is, but it isn't a very accurate represenation.

63.7mm here in Raukapuka to 2:30pm.
No wonder our street is flooded but there are signs of the water level going down.
This has been the windiest day here in Geraldine since we moved here.

Apparently a really decent hail shower in Howick late AM. Of course, I'm never at home when things like that happen :(
There was no hail in Parnell anyway.

Mt Hutt now has 50cm with heavy snow still falling and heaps more to come! You wouldn't bet against 1.3m or more by the time it eases up tomorrow night.

Rain becoming showery now but it is till rather windy with strong winds from the south.
Mild, well mild considering with the temperature around the 8C mark, which was reached here the other day in totally fine and calm conditions.
No pollution problems in Geraldine tonight ,well Timaru, with this wind, especially with the argument they are having there with the old style wood-burners :-w

GFS forecasting sounding for Dunedin 6am tomorrow. Freezing level looks around 800m so getting cold enough for snow on the hills there in the morning.

Ashburton has declared state of emergency.
A minor stream on the south boundary has burst out, farm driveways washed out, sirens during the day, manhole covers floating off

Im Not surprised. Its torrential in Sheffield and looking at the radar theres no sign of it easing. This is crazy. if it continues into tomorrow as predicted this will certainly be a record breaker.

Yes. Like that in Geraldine There would be streams and rivers like that around here, and I've heard the siren go off 4 times today, but there's no state of emergency declared here yet, or possibly will be.
