snow line looks about 350 around the hills here. 12mm from this system. I would think finally the ground is now saturated around these parts

22mm here so far, still a few cold showers coming through. Couple of sleety flakes in the significant shower we are currently having. Its been a very wet month/ year to date. 160mm July to date and approaching 600mm year to date- close to the full year average!

I see Mount Cook has a forecast low of -14C tonight, can;t say I've ever seen the Metservice forecast a minimum temperature that low before! Perfect conditions for a massive frost there, only thing that could be better would be if it was in late June with less sunlight hours...

Never seen that before, 1 hour of sunshine got to 6C then along comes a shower and its snowing with the sun still shining. That upper air must be very cold, pitty the moisture is on the way out, although there is flick of icy showers i pressume from a trough around midnight.

Nice day here in Geraldine but when I went to get some firewood late this morning, you could see those cold wintry cloud forms way up towards ChCh way and out to sea from here.

Just flew into Chch on way home. Only snow still visible is further out on Bank's Peninsula but the Alps sure look loaded from here.

Was there Tuesday this week. Caught it on a mild fine day, about 6C and with no snow on the flat didn't look any different to last time was there in early summer.Bradley wrote:I see Mount Cook has a forecast low of -14C tonight, can;t say I've ever seen the Metservice forecast a minimum temperature that low before!
