Re: General August Weather
Yes, milder and cold days from now on.
Few springy things popping up, despite the persistence of frosty mornings here.

13 degrees at midnight in Christchurch in early August is certainly a win

Re: General August Weather
A rather warm day around New Zealand today with some near to record temperatures.
I wonder how hot it was in Riccarton?

General August Weather
I cleaned my station today and when I plugged it back in it recorded 19. It sure was a warm afternoon today.
Last night it rained for a good hour before the bucket began tipping. Bloody spiders had webbed the tipper. They had also stopped the internal fan. All clean and ready to be home to a new hoard of spiders.

Metservice going for 100mm+ of rain to ALL levels at Mt Ruapehu over the next 24+ hours, will be huge damage to the snow pack. Am booked in to spend 10ish days down there from 27th August onwards, hopefully things come right again..

Re: General August Weather
I had a bird, I think it was a Starling that managed to get into my Stevenson's Screen and made a large nest.
My wife told me off for removing it and felt sorry for the poor Starling.
I told her that it should make a nest somewhere else as not to affect my readings.
Anyway, back on topic, a thick cloud cover for today, not like the lovely mild day yesterday.
If it wasn't there, there would be another warm day for us down here.

Re: General August Weather
Your standard winter polar trough moving across the North Island tomorrow/early Friday. Thunder/small hail in the west and north.
For Auckland city we may get a rumble of thunder tomorrow morning and then a drier interlude with deeper convection returning in the evening.
500mb 6pm Thursday.

Re: General August Weather
I think the best chance for thunder here is early Friday morning in the west.

Look likely this system seem to be a bit disappointing as far as interesting weather goes

Re: General August Weather
The next week looks very unsettled spring like conditions with westerly winds and moisture. Not my favourite type of pattern!

Re: General August Weather
Does anyone have any 120km BoP or canterbury radar images from the MS website that have pink and green on them? Need them for a project I'm doing.

Re: General August Weather
Spillover thunder from the alps on the cards for inland South Island this weekend.
A series of Jet streams moving across the country at the weekend. Speed shear is a great ingredient for lightning.

Re: General August Weather
I see Sunday is showing signs of spring thunder activity over the south island. The skies have had some real ominous look about it the last week or so. Seen some CBS over toward the West coast this evening to. Signs of a good storm season ahead maybe, over due for one in CanterburyNZstorm wrote:Spillover thunder from the alps on the cards for inland South Island this weekend.
