Yes I think that warm front could spark something off Auckland ways, especially with that trough to support it.
Indeed David, a little puzzled that Metservice has no risk over central Auckland, deems a low risk at least.
The moisture is shallow and that will be why the gfs is not breaking out more significant precip. If storms don't fire, it will be moisture related I think.
I see the Facebook warriors have dailed back there "Demands respect" forecasting for the weekend, guess that's makes a true professional weather forecaster not reading models.

One of the reasons I got rid of my Facebook account a while ago, full of keyboard warriors and stupidity that seemed to just bring my day down after a daily browsing session. life's so much better without the nonsense ...but means i spend more time on here...
Certainly been an active night over the North Island. Could see distant flashes right throughout the night to the north of here. Here's the last 12 hours to 6am this morn…

Was an electrical storm in the distance about 2am I'm told, but I was ZZZzzzz (No thunder and I'll sleep straight through an electrical storm at night). Quite heavy rain did wake me about 1.30am. Weather is nice looking to the NE this morning, looking a lil threatening to the SW currently, enjoying the sun.
300mb jet pattern overnight. Quite an intense polar jet is Tasman with exit region over North Island. Always a good jet pattern for thunderstorms at this time of year.

Watched that thunderstorm move in over Howick, was very fast! Looked like we might have a gust front but didn't eventuate. Some quite loud booms of thunder though and heavy rain.
