Great shot Sandi
The afternoon heating may help generate more storms later this afternoon as the next crop of Cbs comes down.

Good pic cbm.
Looks like some more convection possible tonight/morning for Auckland then the weather clears up for the week! Is going to be the start of spring?

General August Weather
Some reports of decent hail about the area today. Once the wind picked up and sun came out it got unstable quickly.
Just looked at blitzortung to check activity on incoming showers and all the nz and Aus stations are recording strikes from storms up in Japan. They must be bloody powerful strikes to be detected that far away would they not?

18mm here so far, mostly in a three hour block from 6pm. Certainly more than planned for!

Re: General August Weather
A resident of Pahoia, NW of Tauranga is attributing some wind damage to a tornado at around 3pm on Saturday. I suspect it was more likely to be a gust-front similar to what we had here earlier. MetService also not quite so convinced…

Re: General August Weather
Its a clear morning but an upper trough crossing Auckland early afternoon may trigger isolated heat showers/hail over east Auckland.

Re: General August Weather
Good pic spwill. Not surprised there was a bit of lightning given the chilly airmass.
