Looks like something interesting will start off the weather for Spring?
Big low system developing in the seas below Australia?

A good first day of spring with sunny 18C for Auckland city. Convergence showers in the west.

Tomorrow looks wet.

Brian no longer lives near Manukau Heads, so some irony in the name. The lack of his presence is unfortunate as he has been a great host of get togethers in the past, whatever his reasons, I hope he rejoins the forum at some point in the future. Was good to see him join us for a meal in Hamilton earlier.

Interesting, do you know where he lives now? His weather station near Manukau Heads is still running. Also hoping he returns to the forum, won't be quite the same without him.

Certainly been a return to rubbish weather over the last few days.
Haven't had it this cold since July. High's last 4 days of 9.2°C, 7.2°C, 8.5°C and 8.7°C.
Hopefully might warm up a bit from tomorrow.

Forum has been pretty quiet recently. I assume that's related to some people not being able to access it - only annoyance for me is that I've had to login every time I visit instead of remaining logged in.

Actually he is a lot closer to where he used to be than I realised. He's in Awhitu area, something like 3 or 4 km South of the last place. Having never driven past there (to his old place or the heads), I had a false impression it was lot further than it is to his old place.

The weather has been a bit on the cool side over the last coupla days, nearly running out of firewood. The shed was full when we moved here in May.
This week things should tend to warm up a bit with the forecasted NW. Might be a bit blowy in Canterbury. It will be interesting to see how windy it gets here in comparison to West Melton where we did get hammered by the NW.
May see a few flashes along the Alps as the next system intensifies as it moves across the country.
Regarding Brian Hamilton, him and I are the 2 longest serving members of this forum, plus one or 2 others.
We have contributed lots to this forum over the years, with over 12000 postings. His comments were very good and well constructed being a good contributor to this forum. Hope he comes back.
Do some of the older members remember Michael? What happened to him? :-$

I don't know what happened to Michael, he stopped posting some time ago. I asked the same thing myself some time ago. Someone mentioned he'd moved to Facebook but I haven't noticed him.

Yes, he's on Facebook now. I've seen plenty of pictures of the 'pine needles' and the Auckland cloud.

The start of a strong spring wind period just about to kick into gear, i would also think we should get some good spillover showers too.

Went up to Mt Peel area last night to see some lightning activity way back in the yonder but saw nothing which was a bit of a disappointment. :(
Tonight there is supposed to be an Aurora but looks like to be a non event with a bright full moon.

The front moving into the North Island tomorrow morning should generated at least a few squally thunderstorms along the line.

Sunday looks interesting in that most of the preip will be solid. Scattered small hail in many parts.

500mb chart for midday Sunday. Is winter returning?

Nothing like that in Geraldine. Very pleasant here in the sun on the back porch,

Front inbound for Auckland. While there have been lightning at sea to the west, the dewpoint at NZAA is only 10C, which points to mediocre instability.
