Re: General September Weather
Fresh to strong NW breeze here, drawing attention to itself by hissing through shrubs and whining around the eaves in the past few minutes.
Sunny.

Getting a bit of thunder here. Storm out to west. Have had some small hail also.

Yes, heard some distant rumbles to the N/NW of here. Hopefully a good sign for some more activity overnight and tomorrow?

Re: General September Weather
We had a very brief heavy squall come through Swanson (West Auckland), some good lightning and thunder. The gusts pushed over some temporary wire fencing at a new subdivision further up the road. Probably redistributed trampolines too, but didn't see any!

Re: General September Weather
Jeez I've had my strongest ever winds today. 105km gust and gusted over 100 a few times today. In nearly 10 years I've never got to triple figures here and it's done it multiple times today.

Re: General September Weather
That lightning bolt which was right overhead followed a millisecond later by a loud crack of thunder, turns out actually hit a pine hedge near Rolleston and caught it on fire.
The rolleston community page on Facebook has it up for those who are interested, but you may need to join to see it.
All in all seen 2 CG bolts and some heavy rain plus small hail for abit, not too bad for early September.

Re: General September Weather
Thunder to the south east, not bad considering we were outside the low risk area.

Re: General September Weather
Wow. Some gusts with the squalls here but nothing out of the ordinary. Are those figures consistent with manual observations, branches down etc? It is certainly the type of weather where localised gusts are possible.jamie wrote:Jeez I've had my strongest ever winds today. 105km gust and gusted over 100 a few times today. Re: General September Weather
Seen two big CGs today. Just when I thought nothing would happen I started walking inside when a bright flash happened and a CG went down. Followed by another crack above the house witch was the bolt that started a pine tree fire.

Re: General September Weather
Relatively frequent Hail showers throughout the day and the occasional rumble of Thunder, had a couple of good squalls but nothing exceptional.

Re: General September Weather
Been into Timaru this afternoon.
2 substantial hail showers went through and there was white along the roadside coming back trough Washdyke and Temuka, including a brown/white paddock near Arowhenua.
I was in Mitre 10 at the time and it was deafening on the roof.

Re: General September Weather
90km is nothing strange for me. I had just on 90km in the very next squall so have to take it as benign correct. No real reason to discount it.cbm wrote:Wow. Re: General September Weather
I heard someone from NIWA on the radio saying this is the second wettest year on record for Auckland to this point.

Re: General September Weather
I am 1220mm right now. Normal in the past decade has been about 1100, struggled to get 1200 and often struggled to get even 1000. With September, October, November and December to go, I should sit on at least 1500mm by the end of the year which will be 36% above normal for me.
