32mm since midnight from this trough. Looks like a bit more to come from it too.

Looks like Auckland's weather stays cloudy for 2-3 more days. October has been a dull Month.

An isolated thunderstorm possible over the SE Waikato this afternoon, conditional on heating.

As for the 700mb storm set ups, there needs to be a lifted index chart for 700mb. These occur every spring, we can get them in Auckland as well. They never look much in the modelling as the lifted index is traditionally set up for 500mb.

I’m measuring 50. Nearby sowing 62. Farmers I’ve talked to say their gauges are now well over 70. Very narrow band and even isolated downpours within it.

Lots of flooding about Taupiri to just north of Hamilton.

I’ve done some investigating. Some intense rain about here today. I caught some of it. But between Hamilton and Taupiri There went 25mm north of Taupiri. 110mm at Taupiri. 100 a couple km south of Taupiri. 60 at mine. Much less again in Hamilton.

Interestingly 90 was recorded just 2-3km away.

90 at tahuna.

So it seems as though a very intense narrow line sat just to my north. It ran from Ngaruawahia to Taupiri to Tahuna.

The move to Geraldine is starting to pay off John, two thunderstorms there now although you were in Australia for the last one :D
I hope so Aaron.
I thought that after missing that one and the move from West Melton with ChCh getting those unexpected storms, what were we going to get here in Geraldine, would be nothing much, but the one last night really paid off. Best I've seen for ages. Probably wont get anymore this summer, but then ????

Wow thanks weather watcher. That confirms my numbers.

Although the line seems ever so slightly rotated clockwise. A couple degree rotation anticlockwise rotating from the centre would make it more like I expected.

I also noticed this with the radar yesterday. It kept showing the rain to my north slightly but we were coping it.

Southland is the spot to be next week for mid 20's temps and sunshine. The South Island looks to benefit most from the ridge.

Hunua Falls at 12.50pm today. Clearly been a lot more rain there than we've had in Howick. Water was quite muddy.

Interesting surface wind convergence appearing between north and south Auckland on the MS observations currently, with around 30mm in the atmospheric river. Nothing might happen but radar may become interesting.

That t/cu photo of John's is just on the cb stage. Signs of precip at base and glaciation is upper parts.
Great pic.

Lovely blue sky morning, ideal for heat buildups later, hoping it maybe an interesting day weather wise.

There is a risk most of this week of afternoon thunderstorms from Central Otago to Marlborough.

Looking semi-interesting towards the Mt. Peel/Rangitata gorge area but not expecting much except a shower or 2.
Yes. Steve, there could be a thunderstorm or 2 along some inland areas this week. :-k

It did deliver but only brief. Some red in the radar imagery for a split second but then all faded away.
