Re: General November Weather
Noticed some large cumulus about to the NE already before 7am, perhaps a good sign for today's potential. Did catch a brief shower here just after 11pm last night but only 1.2mm from it.

Re: General November Weather
Looks like a fine day for Auckland city today according to latest GFS, a few showers developing east of the city.
I think fair weather funnel clouds are quite common around NZ this time of year, just a case of them being noticed.

A lot of Cu developing around Auckland this morning, looking like showers will develop for parts.

Yes, quite a few showers have bubbled up in the last hour looking at the rain radar!

Re: General November Weather
Thunder here as well. About 40 min's ago I filmed a CB to the south east that was forming so rapidly, it was fascinating to watch, although the thunder seems to be coming from the south west.

Re: General November Weather
An amazing weather morning - sitting outside in the warm sunshine while a thunderstorm was going mad just to my north. Loud crashing thunder. Meanwhile to the east across the Manukau Harbour, the cloud buildups have been spectacular and ever changing. Sadly my photo files are too large to attach, so you'll just have to take my word for it

Re: General November Weather
Expecting a sunnier afternoon here with drier air moving in from the west, showers/ storms east of here though.

Re: General November Weather
Impressive day today. I’m in rural south Auckland (kingseat). Seen two funnel clouds and a stack of great CGs. Been too busy to stop for photos or posts on here

Re: General November Weather
The hail is still on the ground and the thunder continues (it's been going on for 2 and a half hours so far).

Re: General November Weather
Some of those cells are returning 60Dbz+ echos, not surprising about the large hail reports!

Re: General November Weather
Why are these storms so electrified? I’ve seen more CGs from these cells than any other storm in NZ.
Today snuck up on me. I hadn’t been following the weather. Should have been more organised.
I’m doing a bit of chasing as I head south towards home. Still seeing CGs. Huntly seems to have a decent one which I’m watching from the Kauwhata.

Re: General November Weather
The Lapse Rates are very good with a upper level cold pool sitting around, 500hpa temps around -22 to -24, just that bit of Sun coming out and no cap = free rise convection.jamie wrote: ↑Tue 14/11/2017 14:39 Why are these storms so electrified? I have been caught a bit off guard by this too.....
Some of the same expected tomorrow....
