Extensive layer of low cloud around Canterbury and the Lower North Island, can see it is burning off in Canterbury and hopefully does the same up here

The first of the cloud buildups are a lot further east than the last few days, looking promising.

You will get something soon tgsnoopy. Good on shore moistwind flows from nov. Less haze around Taupo now . heating should be quite rapid. Metservice live cams have been good for the South Is . They have added some good ones as well [Earnslaw steamer]. If you have any trouble start with Taupo. Usually works for me.

Upper temps will start to progressively cool over the upper North Island in the coming days starting from today and hence lapse rates will start to steepen.

The shear profile is almost zilch so storms are going to be very pulsy, will only chase something thats close as storms will die pritty quickly. (Lifespan of about 20-45min max).

Thursday from what I can see from the last few rounds has a indicated a traditional central Waikato storm setup, with westerly converging with a ENE, plenty of moisture been ploughed inland, provided SFC temps remain up it should go pop.
I see a light southerly steer is forecast, that will be interesting......

Yes, clouds popping up across the central high ground through inland areas of both islands, storms already firing over central North Island.

I see the MS have updated there 'Severe Thunderstorm Watch', in this area the area covered in the watch has now been pushed out closer to the coast. So i'm well and truly within that area now. Time for some update photos?
