Great pictures. Love the clear skies down there, will only get better later
It was more hazier down here hence my photos weren't as sharp as Richards.
More Cb cells to the south of here as well with the sfrecs on the radio really going to town.
The Rangitata one is now outspreading over us but I don't know if it is very lightning active now as what it was when I was up near Woodbury. No thunder rumbles heard from here.
Some cells still going up around here at the moment but from now on they should loose pregnancy as the day wears on. Warm day here, up to 25.7C. At one stage the dew point was up to 17C.
At present I'm observing a large hard-edged grey cloud that's billowed up in the distance to the NNW of Ashburton - could it be the interesting-looking patch I see on the rain-radar around the Hororata/Darfield area?
Low misty-looking clouds coming through here from the south meanwhile.

It's popped up on radar, but doesn't appear to be lightning active. So hard to chase today, all deep in the foot hills with little to no road access
While iv been keeping eye on the models, iv been thinking the storms will be to far in the ranges so haven't really got that excited about it.
Great to see some boil ups though! Always nice to see the atmosphere unstable
I think Omarama would have been a good location for a chase today but NZ storms are not like US storms where you would be happy to drive 5 hours to them.
If storms develop north of Hamilton tomorrow then I will chase providing there is not too much cloud cover, there was a lot of cloudiness for the upper NI today.

Yes, I was waiting for you to come onto the forum especially after today's events down here.
Lovely 'fists' going up today as you see from the photos
Thinking off going up the Rangitata gorge for a picnic tomorrow, judging by today's conditions, to see what happens '
I’m in Albany Auckland all day today but will divert to anything on offer on my way home this evening. Office day tomorrow so will chase anything decent nearby. Friday I am at karipiro until 2pm so will chase Friday too.
Unstable conditions are again expected over inland parts of the central and lower North Island and inland parts of the South Island, with scattered heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms likely in many places during this afternoon and evening.
For the North Island, there is a high risk of thunderstorms this afternoon and evening for inland areas from Waikato, Rotorua and the Hawkes Bay ranges down to the Tararua Range, and especially about the central high country, as depicted on the chart. These thunderstorms are expected to produce localised rainfall rates of 10 to 25mm per hour and hail of 5 to 15mm diameter. There is also a moderate risk of SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS in these areas producing localised downpours of 25 to 40mm per hour, which could cause flash flooding, slips and hazardous driving conditions (refer to any SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCHES or WARNINGS that may be issued today). A lesser risk of thunderstorms extends over a broader area, including inland Gisborne, Bay of Plenty, Coromandel Peninsula, Auckland and central and western Northland, as indicated on the chart from late morning.
For the South Island, there is a moderate to high risk of thunderstorms for the ranges of Nelson and Marlborough, the Canterbury High Country, Central Otago and the Southern Lakes during the afternoon and evening as depicted on the chart. These thunderstorms may produce rainfall rates of 10 to 25mm per hour and hail of 5 to 15mm diameter, along with a moderate risk of SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS producing localised downpours of 25 to 40mm per hour for the ranges of Nelson and Marlborough and the far north of the Canterbury High Country, with this risk reducing to low for remaining areas (refer to any SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCHES or WARNINGS that may be issued today). A lesser risk of thunderstorms extends over a broader area including inland parts of Southland, Dunedin and North Otago, as indicated on the chart from late morning.

This is looking a bit better than before, the Westerly is a bit stronger holding back the NE which has a habit of killing convection. Convergence zone right on the Kaimais.

The Hauraki plains might be the place to head this afternoon however I see there is a lot of cloud over Waikato, won't stop some storms developing but it is dampener.
