Storms have well and truely initiated to the south, but convergent zones around the central Waikato/BOP can be clearly seen on Himawari.
Not sure today will initiate fully for the central Waikato as the ENE flow is too strong, but tomorrow there is much more sfc moisture.

Had a very quick play on time lapse. And it’s worked really well but can’t load to this straight from my phone. Here’s the poor mans version. And for some stupid reason it keeps loading the more recent image first.

Westerly sea breeze just arrived. Keep an eye on the hauraki in the next half hour. Should go boom where ever this breeze meets the easterly

Some T Cu in the Auckland area with an isolated shower over the hills to the south otherwise fine.
Looks like you have to go well south today for storms unless something can develop late.

Ok, so I'm a total casual weather observer. Can someone explain to me why there hasn't been much in the way of boil-ups further north beyond southern Waikato?

An isolated cell has popped up in South Auckland, a PWS at Ramarama showing a quick 18mm in the 30 minutes to 5.30pm.

Just had a massive flash then massive boom less than 1 second. Possibly a cg. Was much louder and pronounced than the previous garden variety thunder we had been getting.
