Storms have well and truely initiated to the south, but convergent zones around the central Waikato/BOP can be clearly seen on Himawari.
Not sure today will initiate fully for the central Waikato as the ENE flow is too strong, but tomorrow there is much more sfc moisture.

Had a very quick play on time lapse. And it’s worked really well but can’t load to this straight from my phone. Here’s the poor mans version. And for some stupid reason it keeps loading the more recent image first.

Looks like the lower North Island copping it again. Pahiatua unofficially had 45mm in an hour yesterday, no wonder they got damage

Westerly sea breeze just arrived. Keep an eye on the hauraki in the next half hour. Should go boom where ever this breeze meets the easterly

Some T Cu in the Auckland area with an isolated shower over the hills to the south otherwise fine.
Looks like you have to go well south today for storms unless something can develop late.

Hasn't been low but middle layer cloud here. Attention now turns to Friday.

Lovely fine and warm day down here. Nothing much deveolping to the west until whereas there are a few Cb development to the west but don't seem to be electrically active as was yesterday. Took some photos, will post later. :smile:

Ok, so I'm a total casual weather observer. Can someone explain to me why there hasn't been much in the way of boil-ups further north beyond southern Waikato?

An isolated cell has popped up in South Auckland, a PWS at Ramarama showing a quick 18mm in the 30 minutes to 5.30pm.

Storm over Matangi way ramped up fast. Dry in Cambridge still, but frequent distant thunder.

Just had a massive flash then massive boom less than 1 second. Possibly a cg. Was much louder and pronounced than the previous garden variety thunder we had been getting.
