Looks like there was a cloudburst over Tamahere (SE of Hamilton) this evening.
This PWS shows a whopping 80mm in 30 minutes (including 43mm in a 10 minute period)
And this second PWS nearby shows 50mm in 30 minutes

Very heavy rain and water everywhere just 0.5km from here. Darn, I would like to get the shower here to water the garden.

Drove through that area about 7:15pm. Big puddles everywhere. One highway on ramp flooded up to above bottom of the car doors. Nearly didn't attempt to go through it but for seeing another car in front go through ok.David wrote:Looks like there was a cloudburst over Tamahere (SE of Hamilton) this evening.

The farmers will be happy with the rainfall, those that catch it anyway. We could be in for a dry summer.
That shower over Auckland this evening dumped upto 20mm in under an hour in Mt Roskill/Sandringham.

That’s nuts. I see Hamilton airport had 48mm.cbm wrote:Drove through that area about 7:15pm. Big puddles everywhere. One highway on ramp flooded up to above bottom of the car doors. Tommorow looks like we will be hitting the repeat button, but the moisture and cooler upper temps come into Auckland as well.
Lapse rates will be slightly steeper than today, which poses a few potential problems, too much cloud developing ahead of prime daytime surface heating.
Looking at the forecast sounding, it says it all, weak to nill shear with a weak easterly steer, but plenty unstable.

No shear at all this week by the looks.
only starts coming back from Monday by the.. so light winds all week for all.
A warm weekend to for Canterbury.. 850mb temps 14-15C suggesting surface temps of 27-28 degrees

Talking to Richard on the phone today. Might look good for Friday but will have to see and wait.
Yes, Mikey, light winds apart from the occasional east sea-breeze gust
30C temp for places like Darfield or even here, to welcome in summer

The monsoon continues. I hope it can deliver a downpour to my garden today but convergence line could be more toward west Auckland today. Dp this morning is 16C so some juice there.

The warming temperatures next week are in the upper levels as well so the end of this afternoon shower pattern from Sunday. I'm glad my garden got that shower yesterday evening.

Thanks for that David. Impressive considering there is no sheer and effectively these are pulse storms.

Clouds breaking early this morning. Very muggy run to work. I'd say the Canty High Country will cop something today

Our main office got flooded last night. Its near at Newstead (near matangi). Ill have to ask the farms what they recorded, but ive just seen pictures of the fire brigade there last night and a very flooded office, water coming through the roof from all the light fittings.

The weak shear makes the convection water bombs as the cells can collapse fairly quickly.
Also precpitable water is high, around 30mm.
