Re: General January Weather
Not a drop so far here in St Albans, but I can hear thunder to the north.

Re: General January Weather
Plenty of thunder to the north still here in Brighton, tempting to go for a drive up to the waimak mouth
I'm no expert but I love severe weather!

Cool sunset this evening as a collapsing storm cell south of Nelson cast fingers of shadow across the glow in the sky. Taken from Strathmore in Wellington

Re: General January Weather
Just had a few spots of rain here. Could be a spell of rain coming from the west?

Re: General January Weather
Witnessed a half dozen Cgs from Christchurch. All from a high based storm to the north, quiet impressive even if the camera failed to get them

Re: General January Weather
I decided to chase solo tonight. Phone died on the journey hence why no update until now.
Ended up in rangiora where I got the last few storms that went east.
Caught a few good CGs on the way and some nice IC flashes. Might of even got one on camera, will look tomorrow night!
Just heavy rain was observed with today's thunderstorms, but apparently there was hail up to marbal size reported
Anyways a pretty successful 3 hours chasing

Re: General January Weather
Getting a midnight electrical storm, main center is just to the south but a number of IC flashes over head, thats the way to be woken up.

Re: General January Weather
Had more or less constant thunder all round from about 6.30 to 8.30, like these slow moving storms.

Re: General January Weather
I wouldn't mind a thunderstorm around here to clear up the atmosphere which to me feels "lifeless".
17.6°C here at present, and temp. inside my home has finally come down to 22°C, there having been no future in opening the windows on days when it's hotter outside than in

Re: General January Weather
Cloudy and overcast all day here. It was nice to come home from work and find the house not as warm and stuffy, like it has been with these warm days. The heat in the conservatory has been unbearable.

Should put a temp gauge in there and post em on facebook as the temperature for your area, well thats what every others seems to be doing going by the ridiculous temps posted, makes you wonder where they place there censors.NZ Thunderstorm Soc wrote: ↑Fri 26/01/2018 17:42 . Quite often when it's sunny and 30C outside, it shows 45C to 50C in there.
We have to keep the doors open.
Had a good load of tomatoes so far this year

At the gondola and watching a large CB going up maybe around Rangiora/Oxford way. Starting to anvil out, but nothing on the radar right now. More convection behind it too.

Re: General January Weather
Second thoughts, maybe it was just hitting a cap. Signs that some of the updraughts that way might be breaking through though.

Looks more towards Lewis Pass/Buller now, massive cloud visible from town.
