Finally dropped below 1000hPa (Just), over 80mm so far. Hoping the associated wind won't be too bad.

Just tapped the barometer here and it went up :?:
Must be the blocking high to the SE of NZ flexing it's muscles against this oncoming low pressure system?

Its raining here in Halswell despite nothing showing on the radar yet. Interesting. Very humid by Christchurch standards, having lived in Auckland for ten years in my past it feels like a night up there in january

Was quite a steady rain here yesterday, 41mm total. Bit less than expected, but nonetheless a good soaking for the garden. Hourly weather chart from my website:

45mm so far, 986.9 hPa and falling. With the wrap around looking strong, I'm expecting another 20mm today.

An Observation on the west coast is 985 hPa, so I'm thinking she is mid 970's in the centre at the moment.

That convection coming into the west of Northland/Auckland now could deliver some decent squalls. Although it may weaken a lot as it moves across land.

The wind at my house (not on the main station) that I have on my maximum wind dial is cool to watch. Sits at 20-30km/hr then boom jumps to 50km/hr, holds there for half a min then back down to 20-30 for a few mins. Some of these gusts are preceded by a big pressure wave that makes the house creek but there is no increase in wind. The wind comes maybe 10 seconds later.

Down to 992.8 hPa & still falling. Wind peaked at 50 km/hr at 9.03pm last night. 99mm rain so far. Not as bad as I feared it might be, I'm not complaining though.

classic cyclonic outer band in Auckland at the moment. She has gained energy from the Tasman around the core. Went out before onto the beach and saw countless vortices on the sand as the band came in, had to wear goggles because of the sand blasting. Wind gusts well beyond 100 km/h on the Hauraki gulf. Lots of branches down now, widespread power outages.

Current obs, 985.3 hPa, rainfall rate 30mm/hr

She is showing signs of a well formed severe extratropical cyclone with a brief eye forming with surrounding non convective cloud formation. Eye looks around 20km wide and should briefly appear and disappear unlike a tropical cyclone pin hole.

Pretty dreadful out there but I'm sure the lawns and gardens will appreciate the follow-up rain on top of yesterday's soaking.

Looking at radar loop does look like it is going to make landfall North of where ECMWF is still plotting it. It's coming close to my current location then. The rain has suddenly stopped here but wind still strong. Seems now are inside the outer bands then.

90mm rain here at Tepuna incl wed. Gusting to 70 or 80. No rain since 4am , still another band to come before the SW change no doubt. Interesting the track of the low going more north, must be pressure from the ridge below.Normaly if a Low is rapidly deepening it will move south and northward if filling. Weather always has surprises .Looks like Center may move towards Tauranga so will rapidly weaken then intensify again off the Wairarapa coast.
