l bet when it's up and running again, there will probably be no rain for them to test the upgrade
Time for them to spend a few million bucks and install one on the Otago Peninsula o_O

I see it's up and running again.
Can't wait until it buckets down to test the upgrade or whatever they did to it.

I see the close range imagery (120 km) for the revamped Rakaia radar is not working.
We had a bit of violent drizzle just after lunch but it didn't appear on any of the imagery. <3

Chch Aero has recorded more sunshine hrs than Auckland's Mangere site over the last 7 days.

The so-called 'solar' reading looks to me more like click-bait advertising disguised as fake (or at least irrelevant) obs? Note that a kWh (kilowatt-hour) is a measure energy, rather than sunshine hrs. Also note that that figure only changes daily, in which case, even though the only reading appears to come from Auckland, it should be under 'daily extremes' and not 'current extremes'.

It also seems that the 'current extremes' panel is now probably larger than the template it was originally designed for, resulting in some overlapping when viewed in some browsers.

Why do metservice not provide interface to view live lightning strikes?
I know its come up a few times but I find it extremely annoying a crown funded office can withhold it but to my other point, if say over time they became bombarded with OIA requested on every strike recorded/type/ lat and long details one after another over time won't they just give up and provide it? Its our money.

I agree.
With lightning strikes all we have is the Blitzotung, com thingy and that only recordsCG strikes. There are one or 2 other lightning recording systems out but I don't have contact with these.
MS might say there were 1300 lighning stikes recorded off the Westland coast last night but if I go back to "The BlitZ" as I call then, they might show 3, even if you are lucky.
There are lots of things with MS, I wish they would change but they don't seem to want to.
It's an institution that really needs a shake up to get things moving along, and becoming more unlogical maybe?

Slightly OT but, I noticed that neither TV One or TV3 have included MetService's 'daily high temp' mid-news segment this week - just the brief appearance of somewhat bereft looking presenters. Seems like ratings suicide to me… #-o

I noticed that as well.
Was going to mention this on my "I See" topic on the Off Topic segment on this forum.
Maybe no one is interested if their town got the maximum high these days?
....or if places like Gore got the minimum temperature for the day?
As far as I'm concerned we got the maximum temperature for today of 26.8C.
Hanmer Springs would of been warm as well.
Sometimes their twitter site highlight the mins and maxs for the country.
...also I have mentioned before, I have recorded more than 262.9mm of rain (to date) than the site at the RP airport at Levels which is not all that far from here. I remember one day I was driving though Washdyke through to Temuka and it was raining but when I checked their site at Timaru, it said nil????

Well no because it was a windy day for a start, but then Hanmers temp are not accurate for start.

The MS haven't got quite got there Cumulative rainfall right for this area, there map shows between 30 - 50mm while there own recording site at Culverden only recorded 20mm, 25.4 here.

I've repeated this over and over again, I wish the MS would drop the word "Short" off their forecasts?
Just say Weather Forecast :x
If they persist on the word "Short", where on their website is the "Full and Elongated Forecast" ?
To me , a "Short Forecast" is whether to wear long trousers rather than shorts?
If they change the word "Short" to "Brief" it may be better as people want to hear what the weather is going to be, as the word "brief" means, to me, a forecast without any of the boring details?
People don't use proper English these days #-o

By your logic, would a brief forecast be more an indication of what type of underwear to have on?

Possibly so. :-k I quite often would be putting on my underpants, getting dressed whilst watching Daniel Corbett on TV One's weather, after coming out of the shower after having tea, just before 7pm :D

Hard to decide if thats pretty decent, or pretty indecent.
