A couple of hot spots currently, Alexandra on 34C with a dewpoint around 7C, Lower Hutt 29C with a dewpoint around 18C. Which location will feel hotter ?

28.8 in Rangiora with 65% humidity makes for a dew point over 21. Even misty low cloud to the east.

Hot in Chch as well with a dewpoint 17-18C


Melbourne is currently 21C, dp 10C

According to NIWA coastal water temperatures are 24-26C around Auckland and as high as 28C in the Firth of Thames. https://twitter.com/NiwaWeather/status/ ... 1020462083

Cheviot would be of the hottest places at the moment on 36deg, 34.1deg here, just got back from CHCH, much more pleasant there.

Little River sitting on 35. A large bank of sea fog visible from central ChCh is decimating the warmth out east.

Yes but with it comes uncomfortable humidity which is unusual with this heat.

I think the Hamilton stations humidity sensor is out slightly. Its only measuring a dew point of 19 (28.2 with 58% humidity) while all other stations in the area have a similar temp but humidity in the 60's giving dew points of 19-21.

The sun is so intense tonight it is actually the hottest inside the house this summer. Might have to sleep downstairs in front of the heatpump as it's nudging 30 in the bedroom :cool:

Overcast and much cooler now with a moderate southerly blowing.
Thank goodness. Will make a better night for sleeping.
From 33C down to 20C at the moment.
May not now reach "40C" here tomorrow [-X

Oh dear it seems Oxford only got to 29.8C today which is one of the coolest inland towns today anywhere in Canterbury, a little short of Chris Brandolino’s tweet which said 39.5C was the expected maximum there today according to his computer model. Not really sure how much I trust the NIWA super computer models accuracy, it was saying Christchurch’s max today was 24C only 2 days ago lol
