BoM pressure obs are indicating the birth of a new surface cutoff low in central NSW heading south east. Moisture in the mid levels above the low is intense on the southern edge. Significant rain anywhere around this low's centre tomorrow evening as it moves into the southern part of the Great dividing range.

Re: Australian Weather
Hobart hit 32.3 degrees yesterday and broke its April record by 1.3 degrees.
No records were broken here in Melbourne. 31.6 yesterday, 30.6 Friday and 29.9 Thursday.
This summer was pretty great overall in Melbourne, it didn't get over 40 at all and there wasn't any super hot heatwaves. There were times we would have a week of maximums around 20 degrees
Hopefully that is the end of hot days until September or October. I'm not look forward to the first warm night in September when its over 20 degrees at 6am.
Moving a bit further west in the city soon and I will be expecting some hotter days in summer. Laverton seems to be a good location for recording the weather as its not as built up.

I might get a weather station set up in the next few months here, once I buy a house in the south west(at least 500sqm section). Prices are still relatively affordable out that way especially with travel time to cbd(30 min express train). It will be interesting to see what grows in the climate, as certain parts of the city tend to get frosts when you get further out (but in this case proximity to the bay might stop that..)
It was quite nice actually, the house hadn't warmed up too much during the day and I managed to somehow use a blanket that night. I think the coldest night we have had so far has dropped down to 8 degrees(brrr!)If there's one thing we know about Melbourne weather, it's that it is predictably unpredictable and reliably unreliable. Wait five minutes if you don't like the weather, and all that.
And the Victorian capital was up to some of its finest tricks on Tuesday night, with a reading of 19.4°C at midnight, after the mercury had reached just 15.8°C at midday on Tuesday.

Re: Australian Weather
The dry season has arrived here today in Darwin, with the first dry southeasterly surge reaching the far north NT coast. Just 28C right now at 10am with dewpoint 10C makes a world of difference compared to the previous few days.
Good wet season finally - which we needed badly with after two poor wet seasons. 1835mm so far at Darwin Airport since Oct 1 with little left.
The Darwin River dam is back up to 90%: The dry seasons are getting warmer so increased evaporation are becoming a concern for policy makers especially as they drive to make northern Australia more of a food bowl.
The strong wet season also shows up on the mammoth dammed Lake Argyle nearby in the Kimberley: Australia sure felt La Nina's presence especially coastal NSW last month:
Here are a few highlights / random photos from this wet season.

Weird , when I went to bed last night I saw rain coming from the west. Woke up and on the radar it was coming from the south east. 30mm in the cbd and 44mm in a western suburb. Looks like some periods had up to 10mm in an hour

Melbourne and lots of tasmania are warmer then some places in NSW and Southern QLD tomorrow. Some places much higher in altitude, but some not so high up. Even Canberra seems to be warmer then some places lower in altitude. Can't be too often that happens.
Also got some rain coming in from the South East which is unusual. Mostly missing me as usual

A doozy of an ECL slammed the New South Wales coast overnight. My dad is in Wollongong and recorded a 128kph wind gust at 8pm last night. 80mm of rain to go with it.

^ Had to look that abbreviation up. East Coast Low:
http://www.bom.gov.au/nsw/sevwx/facts/ecl.shtmlEast Coast Lows (ECL) are intense low-pressure systems which occur on average several times each year off the eastern coast of Australia, in particular southern Queensland, NSW and eastern Victoria. Although they can occur at any time of the year, they are more common during Autumn and Winter with a maximum frequency in June. East Coast Lows will often intensify rapidly overnight making them one of the more dangerous weather systems to affect the NSW coast. ...

Re: Australian Weather
Storm season has kicked off early here due to the favourable Nina conditions. It's like we're 30 days ahead right now and we've jumped to October.
Tuesday evening saw isolated thunderstorms to the south, inland: Wednesday afternoon saw a severe storm over Palmerston and the rural area and later skirted to the south of the city: August here ended up with 19.2mm (average is 4.7mm)
September so far 26.4mm (average is 16.5mm)...
37°C forecast by the BoM for Tuesday which could threaten the September record.

He's made his appearance already a couple of times - I just can't get any photos of him really with a building in the way while I'm at work.
Good to see a change with widespread negative temperature anomalies coming up:
ECMWF EPS: GEFS - has a bit of a cold bias:

Fantastic pictures, Willoughby, especially of the TCu between the two towers.
It appears that Darwin airport recorded its highest ever September temperature on Tuesday (21st) of 38.0°C:

Re: Australian Weather
Rain coming from the east in Melbourne, which is rare. Should see the rare occasion of the west being affected by the "Bay effect" for rainfall. Hopefully it turns more SE.
Also this month feels like we have had more cooler nights then august. But we have had some warm mornings, pretty sure it was above 20 degrees at 6am on the 2nd of September
