Maybe create a new topic for Aussie?
I see there is a lot of lightning around NSW and Victoria at the moment.

Re: Australian Weather
Severe storm season under way in SE Queensland. They have the jet stream across the area for the next couple on months which turns ordinary thunderstorms into severe thunderstorms.

The story made the BBC News. Not just large hail (up to tennis ball size), but also at least one tornado:

Skippy is not looking too happy in the first photo.
ABC News coverage of both the tornado and hailstorms. The video is good:

Amazing footage of the Sydney harbour storm, flags on the bridge show a fresh or strong NE wind feeding into the approaching storm, flags change NW/W with the arrival of the storm.

Quite a few all time records have been broken in the northern half of Queensland as very hot weather has developed. The temperature on Monday 26th November 2018 reached 42.6*C at Cairns Airport and 43.6*C at the nearby Racecourse site. Proserpine (a little further south, near Mackay) recorded a high of 44.9*C.

Nice band of thunderstorms moving slowly ESE across the SE area of Australia at the moment, according to the Blitzortung. Hope not producing too many bushfires?

These thunderstorms produced an interesting thunderstorm over Sydney, as what was noted on the TVNZ 6pm news tonight.

Re: Australian Weather
Are there any good weather forums still going in Australia? I went to weatherzone to have a read up on yesterdays supercells in NSW and it looked pretty dead.

Re: Australian Weather
Thanks for the links, Nev. There were certainly some sizeable hailstones observed in Sydney yesterday - some appear to have been close to tennis ball size. This one is not far away from this size:

Re: Australian Weather
I have read a tweet today that reports Alice Springs recording its highest ever temperature. BOM has a max of 45 for them today, but I presume this was yesterday.

Re: Australian Weather
Yes, Alice Springs Aero recorded its highest ever temp of 45.6C both yesterday and last Saturday (Dec 29), and 45C is also forecast for today. Its previous record was 45.2C on Jan 03, 1960 since records began there in 1941.
Note that an older Post Office site (1878-1953) recorded quite a few dodgy-looking higher temps prior to 1892, the highest being 47.5C in Dec 1891.
