Got to ask yourself why would a boat be out knowing the storm was coming

As soon as I put my posting about it pouring down here in Geraldine, the rain eventually stopped about 5 minutes later. Sun trying to come out now.
Barometer is that low it is nearly falling off the wall, so to speak.
24.5mm so far from this event.
Not much wind here just a light southerly.

They go out a week or more at a time and given its engine problems it's probably been delayed on its arrival before storm.

It had 2 near misses on the way in but made it in. If you look closely there is actually another vessel heading out across the bar.

Yes too true.

Up rooted tree and one snapped in half is the only damage i can see so far, oh apart from a few thousand tons of soil from farms in area

Very busy day in Hokitika the sea has been inundating two intersections on Revel St where Beach road intersects. There are several shops with sea water through them pouring out into the street. Revingtons pub in Greymouth has losts its roof along with many other places, garages, houses etc. Winds have abated a bit. Only the storm surge in Hokitika giving grief now.

Really?

Seen two huge trees topple and a large fence, in each case near misses for pedestrians. The violence of the gusts is a sight to behold, and I grew up in Wellington. This is as windy as I have seen it in a very long time

Have just observed a small low-level shreddy white cloud rushing south.

(Am wondering if I can hear wind in the distance/overhead? 0_o )
