Re: General February Weather
Interesting with low temperatures in the south today with some snow there on the hills.
Quite a contrast to the last week or so of last month.

According to that well-known weather expert Kate Hawkesby, we are now in the hottest month of the year. I'd like to know just when the advocates for moved holidays plan to keep the kids in school ...

Re: General February Weather
Interesting storm risk for tomorrow, first real risk I've seen for Christchurch for a while with Metservice going for moderate along the south island east coast. Severe risk up north.

The wider Dunedin area looks the most likely spot today. 700mb temps quite cold at -3.5C.mikestormchaser wrote: ↑Sat 03/02/2018 21:19 Got to wonder about metservice forecasts at times.. There saying a chance of thunderstorms, for Canterbury tomorrow but iv checked the models and see nothing.
A significant polar trough affecting the South Island late tomorrow/early Tuesday. Coastal to offshore lightning looking likely from Southland to Canterbury.

Cool grey morning in Auckland with temp on 15C. Hoping the skies clear up a bit for pm convection chances.

Some very heavy downpours up north today. Some stations near Kamo, Whangarei showing a particularly heavy one early this morning. This one shows 74mm in 40 minutes https://www.wunderground.com/personal-w ... ?ID=IKAMO2

Re: General February Weather
I see a low risk of a storm witch may skirt up the coast of Canterbury later on tonight.
Looks like a wee trough whips a cross about midnight with cold upper air.
Very coastal though

Short downpour here last night with a quick 13mm.
Already have the Feb rainfall quota of 75mm.
Gfs has a cyclone about 16th?

Re: General February Weather
Just missed last night's little downpour again, only 1mm. Might be luckier with the good showers coming from the north this morning.
GFS scenario certainly is interesting for the cyclone, decent size warm core in transition. IMO, a little too early to take serious but GFS has liked similar scenario's a few times now in the last few days.

Re: General February Weather
The radar showed some nice heavy showers on the North Shore last night, hit and miss.
Some convergence to cross Auckland next two or 3 hrs, showers developing now, timing is better for thunder out to the east this afternoon.
Current weather, building clouds, 22C, dp18C

Re: General February Weather
Convergence line surprisingly weak here, pretty dark clouds that went over only delivering light rain

Re: General February Weather
Fizzer down here too. Cold southerly moved in around 2pm, with low stratus moving in and covering the sky but then I see it is still NW in ChCh.
According to MS, it's supposed to go back to the west here??
Cant see it, should remain uninteresting through to, whenever
