Hmmm… although not that unuaual for Waiouru, MS only show -2.6C for Waiouru Aero (820m asl) yesterday on their website, and NIWA's Waiouru Golf Club EWS, about 2 km to the SSE, only got down -1.0C.
And although MS's -3.5C at Taupo Aero (400m asl) is usually a little cooler than the township, it wasn't quite as cold as NIWA's -4.1C further south near Turangi (350m asl).

Just the slightest amount of ice on the front window on the car, side window not, low 3.8, i'm amazed you would get frost on a surface at that temp.

it's a wonder that you didn't have damage. I had everything covered apart from Kumara that I forgot about, it got hit yet it was + 1.1. Though have you got your frost tender plants out yet?.

One or two. We have to be careful as our garden is one of those featured in the Arts and Plants festival here in Geraldine in a fortnight's time.
Got the frost cloth on tonight
