Hoping for something exciting to come across east Auckland this time... but looks like it's heading to the west again :(

Have you noticed the Met Service have not updated the forecast for tomorrow or subsequent days? Are they being lazy or something?

The overnight low here was a balmy 18C, sunny spells today should give us a warm day with a few heavy showers moving in this afternoon.
A line thunderstorm activity showing up currently across Coromadel/BOP, missed the weather action here so far.

Wanaka has had 46mm from the event

Started off slowly about 3pm here, got heavy around 9pm last night and again at about 4.30am with some occasional very loud thunder from intracloud lightning as far as I could tell. Only about 70mm thus far.

Possible thunder if the convection gets going. GFS has a afternoon trough line coming down. Expected max today is 22C.

I see 44mm in an hr near Whakatane this morning.

The eastern side of coromandel peninsula is taking a pasting right now. That’s an intense trough, especially to the north.

Just over 200mm at the WRC's Golden Cross site on the Coromandel since yesterday.
A mere 21mm here. Not quite as severe here as forecast, but all Waiheke ferry sailings were cancelled last night (perhaps needlessly?) due to 'severe weather warnings'.

MetService list of highest gusts (km/h) yesterday…

109 .. Mamaku Radar
104 .. Cape Turnagain
102 .. Paeroa
100 .. Tutukaka Harbour
96 … Cape Reinga
91 … Hokianga
91 … Okahu Island
91 … Mokohinau
89 … Port Taharoa
89 … Waiouru
85 … Golden Valley
83 … Whenuapai
83 … Cape Kidnappers
81 … White Island
(Note, no readings from Whangaparaoa :-( )

Rotorua Police have asked people to avoid all travel in their patch. At least one of their cars has been abandoned stalled in rising floodwaters apparently. Serious flooding around various areas has been reported.

....and we thought we had it quite bad here in South Canterbury with lots of flooding, a bridge washout near Geraldine. Lots of weather related accidents. 165mm so far here for the event but it looks as though it may ease up soon as it is much brighter looking towards the north.

The mothership low in the Tasman has been virtually stationery for the last 6 hours assisting it’s water bombing missions on parts of the North and South Islands. Serious flooding now in certain areas already mentioned. The low is maybe inching NE slightly again around 994 hPa. A heavy band of showers off the west coast of Northland is wrapping around and heading SE now near that next stationery front. The good old mid latitude cut off low has stumped models and forecasters every day for the last 5 days

Currently here it is 21c, 18c DP, baro 1000.8 and steady. Only 26mm so far but it could have easily been a 100mm more if the low had of stalled more west.

Hope so. It's a bit saturated around here. Still raining. Wonder if we will crack the 200mm mark? :-$

Looking at airport data, Whangarei was the warmest today on 23C and Wanaka the coldest on 8C.
Central Otago has decended in winter now.

I guess a lot of water will be coming off Mt Ngongotaha and the Mamakus.
