I wish those people woudn't use that "half drawn curtains" effect on videos on events, etc.

Re: General June Weather
Was genuinely excited waking this morning to see clear sky.
Thought, "Oh, a sunny day?"
Alas, the sun did come out for about 30 minutes, but it's now clouded over, so back to the usual gloom.
We haven't had it as bad as Canterbury on the sun-less stakes, but it's still been utterly miserable here, so I feel for those poor sods further north.

Re: General June Weather
Having moved north from the Canterbury plains 17 years ago the higher winter sunshine hours we get here is much appreciated, the past weekend was a good example, gloom south of Amberley, mainly sunny to the inland north. The lack of Vitamin D has a terrible effect on me if i dont have my weekly sunbed, Saturday was warm and sunny enough to get the shirt off while getting some gardening done, so that helps as well.

Just watched a nice funnel cloud for 5 mins. Was a few kms to my south toward Hamilton’s north east. Photo was hard to get on phone sorry.

Yes, Jamie. That's what you call a 'mini' tornado. Nice shot.

There is a clip on this link now from a security camera of the tornado damaging the shed near Matamata yesterday.

Note that the shed in that video is different to the one shown in the original photo. The video also doesn't really suggest rotational winds, that's not to say they weren't though…

Re: General June Weather
Looking at the data for Monday there was both microburst and funnel cloud potential.

Re: General June Weather
I’m in Whangarei, and have to say it’s a long time since I’ve experienced persistent heavy rain to this degree. And looks to be continuing for a while yet.
