Re: General June Weather
Are there better lightning tracker sites out there ? TV seems to have often massive amount of strikes while blitzortung shows bigger all.

Frequent short sharp showers seems to be the order of the day here... even some tiny hailstones in the last one. Only 9C currently

The blitzortung is a great url but you have to keep in mind it does not catch all the lightning, particularly the IC.

Seems to be mainly constrained to the west of the region, as is often the case in colder setups like these

Same here this morning. The neighbour mowed his lawns this morning in a morning I was expecting sleety showers to be falling according to forecasts

42mm in the last 48 hours from those coldies containing heavy showers, hail and thunder. Up to 188mm for June now.

Re: General June Weather
Does Christchurch and immediate surrounds have the most boring weather in New Zealand ( although in some ways this is probably good ). This current wintry blast consisted of one hail shower then sun. We don’t get heavy rain, thunderstorms largely disappear off the coast, NW gales seem to slow down at the city boundary, snow - not seen for years, although we do get the odd hot day in summer. Dramatic weather is very rare.

Yes, as I said in other postings, my neighbour was out mowing his lawns this morning.ndoa wrote: ↑Tue 26/06/2018 20:05 Does Christchurch and immediate surrounds have the most boring weather in New Zealand ( although in some ways this is probably good ). With this event we were quite sheltered. I went to Timaru today and noticed the wintry stuff was well out to sea. Not much snow along the foothills, despite the weather page in this morning's Timaru Herald showing a sleety symbol for Geraldine.

A particularly wintry 24 hrs here, down to 8C at times yesterday with hail showers, the clearance coming through early evening allowing for cooling and widespread light frost this morning.

Re: General June Weather
We had some strong squalls yesterday in Swanson, each dropped the temperature 2-4 degrees when they hit. Once the cloud cleared in the evening the temperature fell really quickly. 1.4° just before sun-rise this morning. Too dark when I left for work to see any frost

Down to 2.5c here this morning. Being close to the water, that is about as cold as it ever gets.

Re: General June Weather
What a change of weather compared with yesterday. 16 degrees with sunshine and clear skies. Driving through Massey this morning the temperature at the lower end of Don Buck Road was 3 degrees, It even dropped down to 2 degrees, which I couldn't capture. but got the 3 degrees reading.
