Just got back from Rangiora, certainly very wet there, so different to when i left as there was a bit of sunshine which was nice to see.

Talking with a farmer yesterday who farms 2kms east by the Hurunui Hotel, they tipped out 83mm, while only 14mm here. An incredible difference in such a short distance. But having compared rainfall with him for many years i estimate that that hill range gets around 200mm annually more than out on the Amuri plains, its amazing how a hill range thats little more than 200m higher can enhance rainfall rates by so much.
